With love and intervention my son has finally come out of his shell. Speech therapy and vitamin therapy was his savior. Omegas, and adult strength B vitamins brought speech and focus to his life. He is my little hero, and the best thing that ever happend to my family.
~My precious gift~
My son was a year old when he received his MMR vaccine. Everything was great until that evening when he had a horrible bowel explosion. That continued for two weeks, and things went down hill after that. He lost his speech and only repeated what he heard. He couldn’t sit still and started having melt-downs. After awhile I started keeping him home with me for fear of people thinking I was a bad mom.
I couldn’t look him in the eye anymore. He would just dart his eyes away from me. It was like someone had stolen his soul. My family knew something was terribly wrong; so we saw a specialist. We were told our son had autism and would need help his entire life. When I heard that my heart was crushed. I felt like I failed him and everyone in our family.
No one understood his out burst and always looked at me funny in public. I knew that he needed a lot of intervention. I started teaching him with pictures. I would take pictures of things with my camera then show to him. He was a visual learner and picked up right away. The first steps were a picture schedule and lots of flash cards. The school district was called and intervention began. Christian started Special Ed at age 2. Something that was very difficult to accept at the time. Christian had school every day and additional occupational therapy at Pro care.
The occupational therapy helped with coordination, and helped him relax. Over the years, Christian has had many self stemming actions. I think it relaxes him in a strange way. First were his ears, then flapping, now fingers. Sitting still has always been difficult unless he is on a computer. He knows everything about computers and can do anything you ask of him.
He has a photographic memory and memorizes everything he reads. At age two he began reading and using big words. He could read perfectly, but still wasn’t talking. School started bringing him out of the shell that he was hiding in. It took almost two years after the vaccine for him to look at me. After being at Pro care for a couple of years, we decided to check out a place recommended by a friend. The name of this special place is: STONES WORTH STEPPING, PC. ~Owned by, Emily Worth
Emily worked with my insurance company to get my son covered; we began therapy at 3 years old. Christian went two days a week every week for about six months. Emily would sit behind Christian, and rub the back of his head. At first, I thought it was just to relax him. More words were coming out; not just repeating. It was the start to his healing.
I was meeting him again for the first time since his vaccines. I just wish my father could have seen this miracle before he died. I am not saying Christian is totally healed; but we have come along way down a tunnel that we were told we would never get through. Even if you can’t afford theses additional treatments do it!! My son is a different child then he was five years ago. Now he is working with Melissa at Stones Worth Stepping. She pushes him every time she sees him. He is now asking questions, and extremely polite.
Having to face autism alone can be very isolating, and depressing. If we face it head on, and fight with all our might, changes will take place. I stand tall now with my son, proud of whom he has become. He has put the work in and deserves a medal for his achievements.
He is the light that was brought into my life, and I couldn’t be happier. With love, intervention, and determination anything is possible. I am never giving up and will fight to give my son the best life possible. He is the most precious gift ever given to me and I will cherish him forever.

I was extremely touched by this poignant story. I could see Christian's mother, the author Chessly Nesci, standing behind him like a guardian angel the entire time I was reading. One of the most painful elements of autism is the distance it places between a loving parent and their child. The way Ms. Nesci describes meeting her son again since his vaccinations and the long road they traveled together provides great encouragement to anyone dealing with a child with a serious problem. She provides a service to others by giving us the names of the various programs that helped Christian break out of his silent shell.
A wicked Cajun Fairy named Robes Pierre entered the impenetrable Magical doll land of Sha Bebe. Queen Faustina, the ruler of the doll land, thought she had destroyed him, but he's back! Will the doll land survive his evil ways?
