Strange things were happening in her grandmother's house, and Madison thought she was loosing her mind. Was it really a ghost or just another scary dream.

                                       ~The Scary Dream~

Madison Blake was afraid to go upstairs. The clouds had been lowering all afternoon, and now the weather bureau had issued a severe storm warning. She waited. Perhaps the rain wouldn’t come. She sat nervously in the basement of her very old house. Her great grandmother had left it to Madison when she passed some years ago.

She knew she would have to go upstairs into the attic and check it out but was afraid. Every night at midnight Madison heard footsteps in the attic. At the first sign of the rain, Madison decided it was time to face her fears and head up the stairs to the attic. Until that day Madison had lived in relative peace with the “ghost” upstairs. In fact, Madison had grown accustomed to the footsteps, as if they belonged to another family. But the noises only occurred when she was all alone.

Every time she heard the footsteps she would climb the stairs. The footsteps would stop when she reached the top. This night was different as the noises and footsteps got louder with each step. Suddenly, the air chilled the house. In front of the attic door was a grey mist hovering in the air, the vague outline of a woman appeared. She was staring straight at Madison.

She watched horror stricken as the mist evaporated into thin air. Madison then flipped on the lights, but a few seconds later they dimmed and went off. She made her way down the stairs and looked towards the bathroom. She noticed something following her every move. She had an eerie feeling she was not alone in her house that humid July evening.

The bathroom door was closed, but Madison feared the window might be open. She hesitated. A little voice inside her head told her not to open that door. A feeling of dread, almost a sense of immediate danger, swept over her. The tiny hairs on the back of her neck stood at attention. She could feel the sweat dripping down her cleavage. She slowly took her hand from the door and backed away. As she made her way down the hallway, she looked to the bathroom. The door stood wide open! It had been firmly closed a minute before.

Madison was loosing her mind and decided a vacation was in store for her. Was there really a ghost in her grandmother’s attic? She decided to set off to Miami to talk to someone that could help her with the haunting. This was all too real and Madison felt like she was having a nervous breakdown.

Before she left town she had to see her boyfriend Joe. He couldn’t believe what had happened at the old house and felt a trip away was just what she needed. Madison packed her bag with her favorite pair of flip flops for beach lounging.

When she got there she immediately headed to the beach. She brought a bottle of wine, and a kinky romance novel she had picked up at the airport. She was still in a daze from everything that happened at her grandmother’s house. When she arrived she took her sandals off and ran into the water. There were families all around laughing and enjoying the sunshine. It was a picture perfect day without a cloud in the sky.

Reading juicy novels have always been difficult for Madison because all she thought about was the desire she felt for men. She could actually picture herself in the story acting out the motions. She had one glass of wine and fell fast asleep. It was a dream of hers to be a writer, and finally after a gazillion turn downs she got the job of her dreams.

She was a staff writer for a very successful magazine making big bucks and traveling around the country. After falling asleep for several hours Madison awoke relaxed and ready to meet Mike her long time friend. Hopefully, he would be able to shed some light on the experience that Madison wished she could forget. After hearing the video of the footsteps and the moans in the attic, Mike decided his team of ghost busters would have to check out this old house. Madison decided to leave the next day and the team followed shortly after.

When Madison got to the airport it was very crowded. Everyone seemed to be flustered.  She found her way to the American line and waited patiently for it to move. Suddenly, she felt weak at the knees. She started getting Goosebumps and smelled the most delicious smell. It wasn’t cologne but smelled of fresh clean skin. She really couldn’t describe it, but heavenly was the first thought that came to her mind. He was standing very close, and she could feel his breath on her neck.

She was afraid to turn around and kept going until she got to her gate. The flight was packed and Madison had the very last seat next to the wing of the plane. When she got to her seat she smelled that familiar scent. It was him, the one behind her in line. They talked the entire four hour flight and when they got off the plane they couldn’t stop kissing.

She knew he was the one. She had never felt love before only lust. Lust she could handle but love that was a whole different ball game. It was too late she was toast. The entire night was a blur to Madison. The only thing she remembers is saying goodbye to the only person that ever took her breath away.

After she returned home she couldn’t eat or sleep, or work for that matter. All she could think of was the sound of the footsteps and the woman she saw in her hallway. The only thing that kept her sane was the love that she felt for John. She was in a daze since meeting him and couldn’t get him out of her head. At the time, she completely forgot about Joe. She would have to tell him about John, and that it was over between them. A few days had passed and Madison never heard back from John. Finally, a mutual friend said he died in a car crash after leaving the airport that night.

Her life meant nothing after hearing those words and she crept into a deep depression not talking to anyone or leaving her hotel. Her sister came over and made Madison go to her autism benefit. If it wasn’t for her nephew she would have said no. Upon arriving an older gentlemen with a full head of grey hair caught her eye. He was very charismatic and had the most beautiful smile she had ever seen.

For the first time in several days Madison felt like herself again laughing and smiling. She didn’t want the night to end and never see this charming gentleman again. They exchanged numbers and she went home to pass out for the night. Too many Martinis the night before left Madison lifeless and unable to function for the entire next day. She knew it was the day to return to the old haunted attic but was afraid. She fell fast asleep, and woke up in her old room. It was just a dream all of it. Madison turned off the alarm and happily returned to reality.

Great story! I loved it! I wrote a story kinda similiar to it, it's called "Grandma's Room" and due to the conditions of her grandma's will, the old house was left to her for her 30th birthday in Madison Wisconsin! :)
