A man is trapped in his house by a surly canine, who lurks just outside his front door.

If I could just get out and get past that dog that lurks outside my door, I'd have it made ...

I have been in my house for the past two days; doesn't look like I'm going to be getting out anytime soon.  There is a huge cur (a brindled mutt) with nothing but hunger (and possibly revenge) on his canine mind.  Everytime I look out or even rattle the doorknob, the dog throws himself against the door, snarling and barking madly.  Just to see the anger in his small, beady eyes is enough to creep me out.

Forget the mail or salespeople:  they don't have to worry about bothering me as long as Cujo is around.  More than once I have had neighors calling me about the dog on my front porch, to see if I can shut him up, but I tell them I can't get out of my house because this dog wants to eat me or bite me (whichever comes first).  I have called the Animal Protective League more than once, but each time I report about the dog, they either have another call coming in, or another customer has walked into their office, and they hang up on me.

It is extremely frustrating.

I have half a notion to brain the dog with my gun or kick him in the face, just to get him off my porch, but I know if I do, I might be missing a leg (or something else).  Not a great idea.  Shooting him might be better, but then again, I would be the one being reported for cruelty to animals and/or be taken to jail.  That's the kind of luck I seem to have.  So meanwhile, I am held hostage in my home by a possibly rabid, uncivilized dog, and there appears to be no end in sight.

Earlier, I tried to look out my window or rattle the doorknob; the dog went ballistic:  charging at the door, barking his fool head off, growling, and snapping.  The sound of his angry barking gave me the creeps; it reminded me of the chihuahua that chased me for two city blocks when I was a little kid.  Ever since then, I have had an intense fear of dogs.

I wish I had someone with me so they could distract the dog or at least do something, just to get him off my porch.  I have to get my life back in order; I can't let a rabid, crazy-minded dog rule me.  I wish someone could just kill the dog or at least have the animal people come remove him from my yard.  I don't know what the dog's personal vendetta is, but it's very obvious that he doesn't like me, and nothing would please his little doggy heart more than to eat me or take part of my ass with him as he chomps down on the back of my pants.

As one that loves dogs, I cannot understand why Animal control would be ignoring you or why no one will help you, so, this makes me believe that this is a story as opposed to something that is really happejning to you. However, very well written and interesting.

Doesn't seem plausible, I presume part two vindicates the dog:-) Patrick
