They are my very best friends. I don't know what I would do without them.
My friends are very skinny and rambunctious. They are always bouncing about; it is their way of telling me to play with them. One is fawn colored (that is "Squeek"); the other, pure snow white (that is "Slim").
My one friend is two years old. The other is a little younger. They are only babies and are the cutest things!
"Squeek" and "Slim" are ferrets. I did have three, but the cat killed the mother: guess she thought it was a long rat or something. I was not happy, but I've since forgiven the furball for murdering Mama Ferret. I now make sure to keep "Squeek" and "Slim" away from "Killer Kitty" (as I now call the cat).
I don't have very many friends. I have a mild form of autism (Asberger's), and I am also hard of hearing. Guess that mekes me stick out like a sore thumb. The other kids tease me. I am dreading the start of school because that can only mean one thing: being teased unmercifully.
My mom and dad knew I was sad, so they got me the ferrets. (We have had the cat for as long as I can remember.) It is the best thing they could have ever gotten me.
I water and feed the ferrets every day. I also clean up after them if they poop or pee (they have a litter box they use when they do their business; I change it every day). I give them a bath and dry them off thoroughly, so they don't get chilled and risk getting sick. So far, they've remained healthy. I am thankful for that. I also take them to the vet's office every few months, just so Dr. Wyncoff can make sure they are healthy.
I play with them and make sure they have plenty of exercise. No problem there. They are full of spunk and spirit; I will not allow them to gain weight, or it could be risky for their health.
In addition to all this, I keep them away from the cat, so they don't become her lunch.
I take very good care of my ferrets, as you can see.
My mom isn't so sure about the ferrets (she says they look like long, skinny rats, plus they stink; they have a rather strong "musky" odor), but my dad loves them. He helps me take care of "Slim" and "Squeek", and he tells me that when they are happy or excited, they make cute little squeaking noises or purr. I'd like to hear that; I bet that's cute! :) If they are enraged or unhappy, they will scream or hiss. Dad says they have effective ways of letting you know how they are feeling and are excellent communicators.
I'd have to believe him, but because of my hearing, I have really never heard them make any sounds.
Well, "Squeek" and "Slim" are tellling me it's time to get up, so I must feed them and spend some serious playtime with them. I hope you enjoyed my story and getting to know my two furry little friends! Take care and so long!
