A boy is glad that the picking-on days are behind him.

I am so glad the "whack-me, I'm-a-human-pinata" days are (somewhat) behind me ...

Let's face it:  I'm a walking magnet for bullies and/or tormentors ... or was.  I'm not exactly Mr. Popular, if you know what I mean.  I'm a walking geek nightmare!

I even look like a geek:  oily, stringy black hair that just flops everywhere, thick-lensed, black-rimmed glasses, a big honker for a nose, a think, pimple-marked face, big dumbo ears, a skinny body, sticks for arms and legs, big hands and clown feet ... you get the picture.

Add to the fact that I am smarter than smart:  hell, I'm probably even smarter than Albert Einstein!  My I.Q. is way up there!

I think this is one reason why people hate me.  I'm only fourteen, but I'm already a senior in high school.  Skipped ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades:  the courses they offer is stuff I already learned in elementary school!

I am only a baby-faced kid, and yet I am above most of my classmates academically:  while they have a year or two (or even three) of school ahead of them, I will be graduating in the spring of 2011, even though I am only fourteen!  They are insanely jealous of my academic achievements.

Now that the geek-bashing days are (somewhat) over, I can stop worrying about whether someone is going to stuff me into a locker or give me a swirlie in the boy's bathroom, or stop worrying about whether I will have to go by ambulance to the hospital because I injured myself again.  Or stop worrying about the other kids hog-tying me to the bleachers in the gymnasium and hitting me like I was a human pinata or something ...

I can get through an entire day now without fearing for my very life!

Here's the deal: I got sick and tired of having to explain to my parents about my latest crop of bruises, black eyes, or whatnot!  Now I don't have to do that anymore, and, believe me, I am very glad of that!  I got tired of acting like someone's human pinata!!

Remember another geekie guy by the name of Bill Gates. These creeps and bullies will be working for you one day. Childhood is short and you're an adult for many more years. It's a shame that your childhood isn't very happy, but some day they will be working for you.
As always, very good story, Karen.

It always breaks my heart when kids are picked upon. Good story, Karen.

Well I hope you continue on with your education. A fourteen year old is not very employable regardless of IQ. Patrick

Karen, you do a good job of depicting the kind of abuse that
confronts too many kids on the playground. It happened to me
when I was a skinny kid in the third or fourth grade. It stopped
when I stood up to the bully, expecting the worst. He laughed
and walked away... -gene.

Quite the story, Karen.

You don't explain how those days are behind him ... did he change his appearance? Did he decide 'enough is enough'? What changed the way he is treated now as to before? Otherwise, an excellent story, Karen, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Karen,a powerful story of how some kids are bullied all through school, for the way they look or act,etc and the metaphor of a pinata is fantastic!!! You really get into your characters so that your readers can draw an image. Superb writing! Funny how some kids that look like that can come to look like George Cloony or Julia Roberts,if only they knew it;-)
