A rather unpopular girl deals with the popular girls at her school, and she doesn't like it one bit.

I wish I could have everything that the Pops do ...

Good looks.  Popularity (somehow, everybody loves them).  Boys hanging off their arm.  The latest in fashions.  Friends coming out of the woodwork.

I don't have any of that.  Call me one of the Unpopulars.  Doesn't help that I am short and dumpy in nature, with stringy, shoulder-length mousey brown hair, opaque blue eyes, thick, Coke bottle-lensed glasses (without them, I'm as blind as a bat), buck teeth, a big nose, and boats for feet.  (I wear a size 14 shoe!)

I get teased every day by the Pops.  If it is not one thing, it's another.  They are telling me to dress like any other normal teenager or telling me all about their friends and escapades.  Seems that the Pops are always going to football games every Friday and on dates or to parties on Saturday and Sunday while kids like me stay home and watch the paint peeling on the walls.

It is getting to the point where I am beginning to hate school.  I hate dealing with the Pops, and I am sure that there are others; yet I seem to be their favorite target as of late.

I know that if I fake sick or skip school, I will get into trouble by the old man.  He hates it when I miss school; he's one of those types of people who push education on their kids, and if we don't do well on a test or get a good report card, we will certainly most hear about it.  If we don't bring up our greades, then we're grounded for eternity with no hope of ever being released from captivity.

So I have to go to school, like it or not.  The old man doesn't care that I get teased to the point of tears.  If I'm not in my classes, I'm either in the nurse's office with an upset stomach or in the girl's bathroom, crying my eyes out yet again.  Nobody cares about my feelings; everyone's always telling me to "buck up" and go back to class.

That's all in good, but when I hear the Pops whisper-talking about me or hear them sniggering at me, it's all I can do to keep from wanting to bash their fucking faces in or even kill myself.  I hate them; I wish I never came to this school!!!!

Great read, Karen.

Some things never change. I can remember those days from my own school years. Usually, the ones made miserable by their peers turn out to have wonderful lives , while their tormentors have the opposite--but that doesn't help at the time.

Hugs,

I enjoyed this and you brought this girls charracter to life. A couple of suggestions if I may though. Reduce the size of the shoe...this one linen detracts from the whole write for all people can think about is that and nothing else. If she is a teen, a zize ten would even be overly dramatic. The other is give her a name...nothing fancy or striking but just something to personalize her. Other than that it is a great beginning and characterization.

Sadness in these lines of wanting to be accepted ... I know how this feels, being teased day in and day out ... glad those days are behind me. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
