Right now I don't know anything more except to say that my little girl is very sick, and we don't know exactly what is going on with her ...

It all started three days ago.  Sydney Grace, our six-year-old daughter, woke up with a severe pain in her back; when she went to go to the bathroom, I was startled to find out that her urine was a deep, dark red. It looked like blood.  It terrified me.

I told my husband about it, he called our pediatrician.  Our pediatrician, in kind, suggested that we bring Sydney into his office at nine, so he could look at her.  We told him we couldn't wait, especially since she was acting very strangely.  He said to meet us at the emergency room, which is exactly what we did.

After examining Sydney, the e.r. doctor said that she might have picked up a bug that was attacking her kidneys; this was the reason for the bloody urine.  He said that this was common; he tried his best to calm our fears.  He said that they were going to admit her for a few days and run some tests on her, to pinpoint an exact diagnosis and then treat her symptoms, depending on what the tests revealed.

Later that day, Sydney started having convulsions.  She also kept passing more bloody urine, and her kidney functions were horrible at best.  It turned out that she was a lot sicker than we realized: Sydney had a severe case of nephritis.  Left untreated, it could cause her kidneys to fail, or worse, kill her.

The news was devastating.

Three days later, and Sydney continues to show signs of kidney problems.  She has become bloated, her color has become a sickly pearlescent white hue, she shows no interest in her surroundings, and she wants to sleep all the time.  She is passing very little in the way of urine, and she is refusing to eat.  She has been placed in the Pediatric Intensive Care because her kidneys are trying to shut down.

There's talk of putting her on dialysis, to cleanse out her blood and see if that can spark her kidneys back into doing what they are supposed to do.  Hopefully if that is the case, it will help her, and Sydney can go back to being a little girl again once she recovers from this medical crisis.

We remain hopeful, but on the other hand, we are shaking-scared.  We don't know what the future holds, but we don't like it one bit!
