Clowns! Cotton candy! Caramel apples on a stick! Lions! Tigers! Bears! People dressed up in fancy, spangled costumes! The smell of animals mixed with greasy french fries, hamburgers, and funnel cakes wafting through the air!
Yes, the circus has come to town, and today, me and my family are going!! I can't wait; I have always wanted to go to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus (touted as "The Greatest Show On Earth!"), and now that daddy won tickets through his job, it looks like we'll spend the whole afternoon and evening enjoying wholesome, family entertainment chock full of nonstop action, chills, and thrills (and hopefully no spills)!
If I were to pick any act in a circus that I enjoy, it would be the clowns. They are so stupid it's actually hilarious. I can't resist a good guffaw when I see one of the white faces smash a pie in a fellow clown's face or watching them chase each other around the arena, shouting and acting the fool! I also like the wheel of death, where several motorcyclists get in there and ride up and over and around each other; sometimes they get so close to each other you think they are going to collide, but they never seem to do so.
I wonder what would happen if that happened ... pray I never find out in real life ... that would NOT be good!
My mom and dad like the trapeze artists flying through the air. Me, I'm not so keen on seeing people dressed in bikinis or fancy shorts (and no shirts for the guys) swinging on swings and trying to catch a flyer after they've done a series of fancy somersaults through the air, with nothing below them to break them if they fall. It's a little too intimidating for me!
My baby sister likes the dog acts. Whenever she sees the dogs, she will start barking loudly, as if they could hear her; I sometimes swear that she wishes she were a part of the act ... or at least a dog.
If there's anything I don't like about the circus, it's the exhorbetant prices for souvenirs and food and drinks, or the fact that we have to pay over $5.00 to park. By the time we are through, poor mom and dad are near broke and have to utilize an ATM machine so we can have enough for gas on the way home or eats if we decide to eat somewhere after the show.
I just hope that I can put up with the screaming kids or my sister being hopped up on sweets and cokes! She's already hyper enough (she's three); she doesn't need any more help!! I also hope that I can put up with my older brother teasing me by callng me "Bozo-Head" again: I can't help that my red, frizzy hair looks like a certain celebrity of clowndom!
