Brynnie Grace Huskey is my name.  I am thirteen and a half years old; I'll be fourteen in several months (July).  I was born on July 4th; I'm a holiday baby.

I live in Palo Alto, California, with my family: my mom, my brothers River (10) and Tyler (8), and my older sister, Brittni Michelle, who is sixteen.  My dad divorced mom when Brittni was my age.  I think I was three then.  We don't hear from him but on rare occasions (like when he sends us a card for Christmas or for our birthdays, but that's about the only time).  

Dad lives in Tampa Bay, Florida, with his new wife (she is twenty years younger than he is) and her two children, who are both under the age of three.  They're just babies.

I don't like to talk about that, so I'm going to continue my story.  Anyway, I get along with my family pretty good, but my brothers can drive me crazy, especially Tyler, who is a bona-fide brat.

I am disabled.  I am in a wheelchair because I was in an automobile accident when I was two.  That is why dad left: he couldn't cope with my being disabled.  If you ask me, I think that was a very cowardly thing for him to do, so I'm not real thrilled with him.  I do love my dad, but I wish he would have stayed or at least let me know that he loved me and mom and Brittni!

I can walk for short distances on crutches, but most of the time I use my chair, as it's a lot easier for me.  I can do just about everything anybody else does; I just do a lot of things sitting down.  :)

I really don't have any problems with being disabled, but I hate it when people think that just because I'm disabled, then it must be that my brain is too.  Nothing can be further from the truth.  I happen to be very smart! Just ask mom and Brittni: they'll set the record straight!

I like to do many things, among them being drawing, collecting books about horses, riding my horse (Gentle Spirit), hanging around with my best friend, Ophelia Edwards (she lives just up the street from me; she's an only kid), watching old country music programs on television, listening to country music (I like the old country music), wheelchair dancing, swimming, skiing, singing at church in the choir every Sunday, and watching American Idol.  (I like that show.)

Well, I gotta go: it's about time to get my little brothers from school; I'm going with mom to pick them up.  Then we are going to meet Brittni at the high school and mom is going to take us out to eat; she's taking us to Shakey's.  I haven't been there in a very long time; I love their burgers!
