A young girl can't believe how people treat her, but she refuses to let them bring her down. It isn't as easy as it seems because lately the bullying has gotten worse, and it's starting to bother her.

I can't believe how stupid some people can be.

I mean, just because I don't care about what a lot of kids my age do, that shouldn't make me an outcast!

I am 12 years old, but I am not into boys, rock music, fashion, celebrity gossip, or being mean to others.  I wasn't raised that way.  I am more into gospel music (in fact, that is what I want to be when I grow up: a gospel singer), helping others if they need it, ministering to others about Jesus Christ, and going to church.  (I'm a pastor's daughter ... and mighty proud of it!)

My name is Starshine Faith Brookins.  (Now isn't THAT a name??)  I am 12, as I just said; I will be starting middle school (seventh grade) in the fall.  I live in Dallas, Texas, with my mom, my daddy, and my three brothers (triplets; they are six, and their names are DaVante', DaShon, and DaMetrius).

I am fairly short for my age with big, brown eyes, a snub nose, and a chubby body.  I am not exactly skinny, but I do get plenty of exercise.  When I am not helping out at church or ministering to people or watching out over my little brothers, I like to draw, write stories, watch tv (within reason, of course, as long as it meets my parents' approval; they are very strict on what we can watch), dance, sing, and visiting my grandma every Saturday at the nursing home. (Granny has Alzheimer's.)

I am a good kid, so why does everyone at school make fun of me?  I didn't ask to be chubby, and I certainly didn't ask to be a PK (pastor's kid); it just how God designed me.  They say really nasty things about me, things that are not worth repeating here.  At times I get so upset it is all I can do to keep from wanting to go to school; I will be so glad when school lets out for the summer next week!  I can't wait to get away from the bad kids!  The girls are the worst!!

If I don't get teased about my being a PK or my being a Christian, I definitely get it about my weight and my name.  They call me "Spaceship" or some other stupid nickname, or they trip me whenever I walk by the Mean Girls' table at lunch so that my food goes flying everywhere.  Then they laugh, which always makes me feel about an inch tall.  I want nothing more than to get out of there or to crawl underneath a rock!

I just wish that they could see how God feels about the mean kids' behavior and how it harms other people.  I have heard of kids my age or older who commited suicide because they couldn't take the teasing/taunting any longer, and I don't want that to happen to me.  I have too much to live for; I'm way better than those kids!!

If I hear the girls call me "Spaceship" one more time, I think I'm gonna scream!!!!

Well, I just made myself cry again, so I'd best go! I know it's not right to hate, but right now I am beginning to hate those mean girls and how they treat me!  I'm gonna need the Lord's help to get through the last week of school and the remaining days of this week!  I can't do it by myself!!  The bullies are really starting to wear me down!

Say some prayers for me; I could really use 'em!  Thanks!

~Starshine.  :(

Kids can be cruel ... sadly true. I hope this young lady holds her head up high and is proud of who she is. She's the better person. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Sadly, this happens far too often. What goes around, comes around, is true. It's just awfully hard waiting for it sometimes. :)

Be strong in faith,
Donna
