Only have had her a week, and I already love her ...

Last week, we adopted a little orange-red short-haired kitten from the local animal shelter.  Mom and dad said I could.  They said since I took good care of our last kitty, I could have another one when our kitty died.  Well, "Simba" died last year, and I have been sad ever since.

Simba was a beautiful chocolate brown Ragdoll.  He died after he got out and got hit by a car.  I saw it happen.  I miss him so much!

Then came the happy day when we went to the pound to get my new kitty.  I wanted another Ragdoll, but then I saw this little short-haired orange-red kitten just meowing its head off.  It was as if he was saying: "Pick me! Pick me! Pick ME!!!"  It was no more than a month or two old; it was tiny!  And it was so cute!

I knew then that this kitten was the one I wanted. 

After mom and dad paid for the kitten and got its adoption papers, we were on our way home.  The kitten continued to meow loudly as it struggled in my arms; it was scared.  I started talking to it in a soft voice, trying to calm it down, but it was frightened.  I could feel its little heart beating wildly against my chest and it was trembling hard.  I felt sorry for it.

I looked at the kitten and decided to name it "Pistachio". 

Well, "Pistachio" has been mine for a week, and she makes me laugh with her crazy antics.  From the time I wake up until I go to bed, she is bouncing all over, exploring, playing, trying to get into mischief.  She sleeps too; when she does I can't help but watch her.  She is so adorable!  Now that she's used to us, she will come when she smells her food or when her name is called, and she will snuggle in my lap or play with mom's hair or try to play with dad's cigarettes.  She will run around crazily and run her head into the wall with a loud "Thunk!"; when she does, we can't help but laugh.

"Pistachio" is so goofy!  She makes us forget about losing "Simba", though I have bad dreams about him nearly every night.  Sometimes when I wake up, I'm crying, and "Pistachio" will nuzzle my face, purring comforting purrs to try to cheer me up.  Works every time.  She's a great friend!
