It's funny, you can tell by the tone of a friends voice what's going on in their life. They don't have to tell you. I didn't know why he was upset, or sad, but I knew something was up. "I've been rejected." He said. "I feel like a loser." "First of all my friend, they did not reject you. They don't have a "fit" for your work right this minute." Every time one of our author friends gets that exciting news "I'm going to be published", we all rejoice with them. When that author sends out the publicity, : "I'm so happy to tell you, (whatever publisher) has picked up my book. It will be released next summer..... that's what they send out. What they don't send out is: I queried seven hundred and fifty publishers before that one asked to see my manuscript.....and that one finally said, yeah, we'll publish you! My friend was laughing before we hung up. That's what we do, as friends. We encourage each other. I reminded him to stop calling, or thinking of himself as a "loser". They didn't reject him personally. Besides how could anyone reject that sweet adorable person that he is. I know the next call he gets will be an acceptance. He's a terrific writer.
