"I see the moon, and the moon sees me ... I see the moon, and THE MOON SEES ME!!"
My brother looks at me annoyed. There's no telling how many times I have sung this song whenever I see the moon, particularly one as fat and as full as the one tonight. It is the annual Blue Moon, meaning that there were two full moons for the month of August: the "extra" full moon is always known as a "Blue Moon". It doesn't mean that the moon itself is actually blue.
The moon is absolutely gorgeous tonight. It is rising in the eastern sky; it looks like a huge orange ball, but will turn lighter and lighter as it rises higher. It reminds me of the "harvest moons" of autumn; pretty soon we'll be seeing those too on clear, crisp fall nights.
I sit here on the bac k porch with my family: my mom, my dad, my older brother, and my baby sister. We all love to watch the moon come up, particularly if it is a special mooon, or a rare event like a lunar eclipse, which is always cool to look at.
As I watch the moon, I start singing again. I sing that song about the moon watching me, always yelling the last part. My brother slugs me in the arm. He hates it when I do this, but it sure cracks Emily-Jo up. Emily-Jo is three; she's just a little kid, and I love to make her laugh, so this is why I sing my crazy moon song.
I love the full moon because it makes me think of one thing: Halloween. Halloween can't be far off; it's already September, which means that I have all month to come up with a wing-dinger of a Halloween costume this year for tricks-and-treats and also our school's Halloween party.
This is my favorite time of year coming up; I am glad to see school starting back up tomorrow and then I can concentrate on that as well as thinking about what kind of costume I will have for Hallwoeen. I am so happy as I watch the moon I start singing other moon songs in my joy.
