Thaddeus, our twelve-year-old son who was injured in a fall while hiking with his friends back in early April, is out of his coma!! He is awake and is starting to become more aware of his surroundings! It has been a huge answer to our prayers!
Granted, he is not at all happy being in bed or tethered to tubes and lines, but the fact is this: he is awake and is starting to recognize people around him! I am so happy I could just cry (and I already have done plenty of that, believe me)!
Doctors are very pleased; they say that he may not have sustained as much damage to his brain as originally thought: he may have some delays, but it's nothing that a little therapy and intervention can't fix! So more good news!!
This is Rita Humphreys, Thaddeus' mother. I have been camped out here at Nashville Vanderbilt Chldren's Hospital since April. It's now the middle of October. Nearly six months since all of this drama first began, and finally, finally, there's hope!!
John and my mom have been by to see Thaddeus, as has our pastor from our church, and friends, who have continually rallied by our side. I don't know if we would have reached this point if we didn't have all this support, plus the mercy and grace of a loving God. It is God who has been instrumental in bringing our son out of his coma and to this point!
While we don't know what the future will hold for Thaddeus, one thing is for certain: things are looking much better than they were just a few weeks ago!
Just keep those prayers and well wishes coming; we (and especially Thaddeus) appreciate each and every one of them!
