Dear Smiley: Since you are now an extension to my native folks in N'Awlins per the Advocate's new-found penetration into the Times-Pic's market share, I hadn't heard you mention a favorite seafood platter place: Deanie's.
Their "mile high" platters and onion rings are more than enough for me and Lady Maria.
So as the beloved late Buddy Diliberto was noted to promote on their ads: "If ya aint in Bucktown baby, ya aint at the real Deanie's!"

Post Note from Keith: I had sent in the above note to Smiley about 2 weeks ago and didn't know if it would ever be used in his column. I happened to have Friday (10/26/12) off and went into N'Awlins for a meeting and then, guess where I headed? - Deanies! Maria, my wife's birthday is today, so I surprised her and the boys early Friday with some great seafood from Deanie's. I got 1/2 a platter (that's enough for 3!) and an Oyster Poboy for me. As I was waiting for my take out order at the bar (almost ordered a Dixie beer!), guess what I ordered? That's right - Onion Rings. I munched on them - first time I tried dipping them into tarter sauce - and enjoyed the spicy potatoes while awaiting my order. The waitress was so kind and glad to know that us N'Awlins transplants still come back to Deanie's. It was funny to read Smiley's column on Saturday, 10/27/12. What a small world!
