Doctor, you say that my daughter, Quimby Rochelle, won't "amount to anything".  Just exactly what does all of that entail?? Enlighten me, please; I'm ready to hear why you say this about her.

I know it isn't my fault that Qumby was born the way she was:  I did everything you asked me to while pregnant with her.  I exercised, I ate all the right foods, made sure I drank plenty of liquids, rested when necessary, and kept up on all of my prenatal checkups and appointments, yet Quimby still ended up being born with brain damage. 

While I don't understand why this had to happen, I have since accepted the diagnosis and I will do everything humanly possible to ensure that Quimby has a good life.  Goodness knows, she certainly deserves that!

Oh, so you say that Quimby will never walk or talk on her own.  Well, doctor, I have news for you.  I aim to make every opportunity available to her and I will show you that she WILL learn to talk or walk.  I don't know how long it will take, but by God, I will see to it that she IS walking or talking by the time Quimby starts school in a few years!  Mark my word on that!

And another thing:  while her body doesn't work as well as it should, it doesn't mean that her brain is affected either.  She is not, in any way, mentally disabled; she's as smart as any other child.  Her problems just happen to be more physical than anything else.  She is reading early chapter books (and understands the context behind each and every story), she knows her alphabet and her numbers up to 50, and can name different animals just by looking at their pictures.  There is nothing "mentally disabled" about that!

Just because you happen to have your fancy degrees and know a lot about medicine, that doesn't make you an expert.  You aren't with her 24/7 like I am.  You don't see what's going on with Quimby's development whereas I DO.  So take your stethescope and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.  If you can't accept my daughter for who she is, then I will be happy to find another pediatrician who cares because it is obvious as the nose on my face that you DON'T.
