Ronee' Reaux, age 13 at the time of this essay, wonders if it is okay to have a boyfriend.

It seems funny to think that a boy actually likes me.  ME!!

I don't know if I am ready for this.  After all, I am only thirteen years old.  I don't want the responsibility or worries that having a guy brings; I want to enjoy what is left of my waning childhood and embrace my adolescent years!

Still, the guy in question is nice, there's no question about that.  Michael Stinkowitz and I met at a Cajun festival; we met after I had gotten off stage; he saw me perform and it was an instant attraction.  He saw something in me, I saw something in him, and it was ... wham!  Somehow we can't stop thinking about each other.

Some of my friends think it is great that I have a potential boyfriend in Michael, but as for me, I'm confused.  I mean, I like him and all, but as I alluded to above, I am not ready for a boyfriend just yet.

I just hope he doesn't like me just so he can feel sorry for me.  I always worry about that.  I know it's silly, but I can't help it at times.

Maman and Daddy say just take it slow and easy, but also remember that I am just a teenager; one can't really rush headlong into things like this.  So I am taking my time and trying to do this slowly.  If it works out, great; but if not, then that's okay, too.  There are plenty of opportunities for me to find "the perfect guy" and there are other potential boyfriends to be out there.

All I can do is pray about this and ask God to guide me.  After all, He will never steer me in or put me in a situation I'm not comfortable with!  (But then again, He can.)

Best thing to do is to do what Ronee' says in the last sentences. 'All I can do is pray about this and ask God to guide me.' And God will NEVER steer one wrong or put them in a position to give into temptation. Well done, Karen.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
