After the ending of creation, on a day, when all that was created, began to take up their duties for, which they have been created. Wasp realized that he was a kind of genius. Sure enough! Like one of his cousins, the Honeybee; he was a very good comb-maker. In fact, he got so skilled at it, in so little time; it made him think he was even better than, the real expert, the Honeybee. Well, Wasp got more proud of himself, in such a way, he made many combs. Each comb that he made was of different shape and size.
Wasp would hang the combs out on display, for all to see them. Combs were hanging everywhere, for example, on trees, garden fences, even on human houses. These combs of different shape, sizes and beauty; caused other insects, of relative spices to be jealous of Wasp. Only the Honeybee, didn’t take any notice of what Wasp, was getting up to. Perhaps it was because, even at that time, Bee was too full of activity. If you must know! Bee was already making honey. Oh yes! That’s right he was, at this point, he had already made it, and had it sealed into his combs, so that it would be there for future purposes.
This news about Bee began producing honey and saving it for the future; was not good news for Wasp. As a result, after Wasp heard about it, he made sure he had the news verified. The whole truth was then established. Wasp was satisfied; Bee has been indeed making real honey. This caused Wasp to become very angry at Bee, over the honey producing affair. He then, began to blame Bee for producing honey too soon. When the truth is just this! Wasp was upset with Bee, as Bee produces honey, and he could not.
In the eyes of some other relative insects: “Bee,” turns out to be the most important, at that time after creation. Now, with all the glory, which Bee was receiving from others, it made Wasp become, even, more cross. It made him so upset, and confused; he became dangerously wicked. As a matter of fact, he turns out to be so naughty; no one could go close to view his combs anymore. He would try to stop all viewers by, stinging them. Still, owing to the beauty of the combs, some couldn’t resist viewing but all who did, get stung.
Owing to the stinging, those with authority, they forced Wasp to get his combs from off display for a certain season. Of course, being forced from exhibiting his combs didn’t do any good for Wasp. In fact, it actually sets him back. Why? It puts a great restraint upon his progress, of trying to make honey. The set back, which he suffered, was terribly damaging to his image progressively. Finally he decides that the issue, about honey must be settled soon. “Bee, he is the problem, I must visit him” said Wasp. He even, went on to say this; “Who can tell what I might learn; while I’m with Bee?” Thinking that maybe he’ll be able to lure Bee into a peace offering, whilst the visit survived. . This he grumbled to himself! Having a tricky grin on his face, he kept on grumbling. After all, Bee and me, we are first cousins; then why shouldn’t we be able to reason. Wasp has a plan in his mind: he wants to learn from Bee, and then later he’d probably, deceive Bee. The meeting took place at a time, when Bee was quite busy; he was preparing honey portion. Wasp caught him working at it, and tried to make peace with him. He saw the moment as a good opportunity, in his favour, to learn the honey making trade. Anyway, somehow, Bee seems to have realized what Wasp had in mind, and so, he puts an end to working. “He said that he was weary, and lacks the urge to continue.”
Wasp guessed Bee might have smelt a rat about why he is there. He was so disappointed; his colours began to change. He became a dark, sort of yellowish or, gold-like colour. Bee, still taking his break; Wasp was greatly annoyed, he returned home; even, more bitterly upset with Bee than before, he went to the meeting. Well, after few days went by, Wasp started to calm down. At last, he has his mind now more at peace. Relaxing within himself, he began thinking of how to make honey. He decided to use only, his own wisdom, to start with the experimenting. “Obviously, such was his thoughts.”
All his desire however, was to make honey, and to seal it up into his combs for safekeeping. He began to fetch all what he could consider, as the best things for making this product. He thought only of the things of real necessity. These are some of the things, which he considers “sugar-cane-juice, water, nectar, and all kinds of fruit-juices.” These he placed into a large container, getting it ready for mixing. When it was ready, “he stirred it all up, and mixed it for a while, and then he tasted it. Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Yes! This is sweet! Real sweet indeed! Almost there, almost there; but not yet honey.”
Finally, Wasp said to himself; there must be something else, which I need to add to the mixture. He sat himself down, scratching his head; he suddenly thought of mango. Ah! He said. “Mango-juice, I need to put some mango-juice in.” Fortunately, at that time there were lots of ripe mangoes available. Quick the following morning, Wasp sets out to get the mango-juice. There were many mangoes, which already fell from, the trees. Wasp looked over most; actually, he was spoilt for choice, seeing so many.
Naturally, he identified a large burst one, with the juice flowing out. He went for that one; his intention was to fetch, as much juice, as he could carry. Sadly, while he was still sucking up juice, the east-wind came; owing to the force of the wind, more ripe mangoes fell off the trees. Fruit came to the ground in great numbers. They rolled and bounced all over the place. Unfortunately, something happened to wasp! One of the fruit bumped him on the head; and it knocked him unconscious for quite a time.
A little bird called Beanie saw when the fruit bumped Wasp. The same little bird was also, eating mangoes too! Of course, when he realized that the fruit had hurt Wasp; he went to help him. He gave Wasp first aid until he revived him. As soon as Wasp partly regained consciousness, he tried to fly; but he couldn’t, seeing he had broken wings. He also tried to walk, but he couldn’t do that either, as his legs were also badly damaged.
The truth is this: Wasp’s injuries had been terrible. Beanie watched him as he tried time after time to manoeuvre himself, but he could not. Then, Beanie showing more pity, picked the Wasp up, and took him back with him to his home. At home, Beanie continues to take care of Wasp until he got better. Of course, because his broken wings and damaged legs didn’t heal quickly; Wasp suffered yet, another great set back with his honey making venture. Furthermore, due to his injuries, his brain couldn’t function as well as before.
This poor Wasp, had to live with bad memories, and according to Bee, to produce honey it takes more than just common sense; it takes knowledge, and understanding. Whereas, Wasp finds himself short of all that, even, before his accident, which made him sustain brain damage, and since honey is so difficult to produce, he gave up on the idea. Nevertheless that’s not the entire end of Wasp’s ingenuity! Even to this day, “he is still making beautiful combs, and handing them out on display, probably, all around the world.” In addition, Beanie, and wasp, their sociability remains unchanged.
Throughout the Caribbean, it is almost sure that anywhere, there is a Wasp nest; you’ll find that Beanie has a nest very close by too. The faithfulness in the union between Wasp, and Beanie continued to be a mystery “but it is certainly not a myth.” Could it be just because of the kindness, which Beanie rendered during the time of Wasp’s distress: “when he’d received the bumped on his head?” Perhaps, one day it will all be revealed. Until then, try and remember this; keep clear of wasp, as he is always defending his combs; and he does it by stinging, then don’t let him sting you, it is very painful.
