I'm a softie when it comes to watching and encouraging young musical artists hone their craft and pursue their careers. Part of the fun in watching shows like American Idol and the X-Factor is watching those with no talent at all compete in the belief they are the ultimate in love, purpose, skill, and performance. They can be a hoot. A hard dose of reality awaits 98 percent of them. But set them aside.
The cream rises to the top. And those who compete in the finals still must deal with reality. Those who learn that entertainment is more than a pretty face or a great voice go farther. It's also part delivery, part believability, part stage presence, and a lot about making a connection with the audience. In last night's finale, love took the top prize. It went to Alex and Sierra, a modest couple with a talent for singing about love because...they were the very thing they were singing about. It showed in every gesture they made but especially in their eyes. Love conquers all, and they captured America's heart.
The most talented singer in the final groups was a fellow named Jeff Gutt. He could bring the house down almost every time he took center stage. Wow! What a talent. But he got some bad advice. In his final performances he sang 3 hard rock songs. I'm sure the hard rockers loved all of them. But America loves a love story more. And Alex Kinsey and Sierra Keaton delivered.
Gutt will still have his day. He's too talented. But love lives on and on. Alex and Sierra now have a career as well as each other. A perfect ending to a fabulous love story.
I loved watching them two love birds sing. It was just outstanding. I was glad when they won but probably Jeff Gut will get a recording deal too. He's got a great voice. Perfect story Edward. Mary
Beh picked them from the start, but then, she's a good singer and Vietnamese. For performance, I'd give that Latin heart throb, Carlito, a shot, too. And, I can't believe you missed Leona Lewis... I didn't. ;-)
These shows, including The Voice, give hope to a depressed America. So many wannabes, so few winners.
