Christmas, to me, means many things. Here is a list of what Christmas means to me.
1.) First of all, Christmas means the celebration of the Birth of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, so long ago; and He was born here on Earth as a Man; but then chose to die for our sins, so we ALL could be free of sin and Satan's dominance over our lives. He gave us the choice to accept Him or not. (I chose to accept Him into my life.) This is probably the most important aspect of why people celebrate Christmas in the first place. Why do you think the holiday is called CHRISTmas? It's NOT called Santa Day!! Santa wasn't the one born in the manger so long ago in Bethlehem; JESUS CHRIST was!
2.) Christmas means family and friends gathering together for a meal of carefully prepared food guaranteed to whet any appetite (especially those with a weakness for sweets; sweets are very prevelent around Christmas time!), or gathering together for an exchange of presents bought for loved ones, or gathering for a time of reunion or fellowship.
3.) Christmas means twinkling lights on evergreen trees, or on eaves of houses; and Christmas means putting up wreaths, manger scenes, or winter time scenes in windows or on shelves (or even on doors). Personally, I think Christmas is about the prettiest time of the year! I LOVE looking at all of the twinkling Christmas lights!
4.) Christmas means shopping for your family and friends. Many people spend outrageous amounts of money, so to ensure that their family has the best Christmas EVER; but Christmas, to me, ISN'T about the shopping; it's about the Birth of Jesus Christ! (Too many people seem to forget that. This is why Christmas has become such a chore and too commercialized for many. Many people dread Christmas because of all the commercialism surrounding the holiday.)
5.) Christmas means snow, cold, or testing out your brand new sled or skis. Sometimes Christmases CAN be warmer than normal, but as a rule, most Christmases in a lot of the United States is cold, cold, COLD..and SNOWY!! This is why, when you see a program on television, you'll see snow in a lot of the Christmas shows.
And finally, Christmas means helping out those who are less fortunate. This is why you see people collecting for charity, or people ringing bells each Christmas season. You also may see people taking food or clothes to the needy, or people visiting the elderly or sick in nursing homes or hospitals each holiday season. This is the way it SHOULD be; after all, Christmas should be about helping those in need! But too many times the poor or lonely or sick are left to be forgotten; and that is very tragic indeed.
These are the things that I think what Christmas is all about.
