Digital Meet-Up
By Odin Roark
Fingerprints, meet DNA.
DNA, meet Fingerprints.
Prints eyes DNA’s curves. “Well, all right then. You can call me FP. New here, right?”
“Yeah, well, this file needed some modernization.”
FP smirks, straightens up her pixels, and checks her image. “Can’t improve on perfection. Fingerprints have kept people honest for a long, long time.”
“But with limited info, girlie. 2D is so yesterday, FP. It’s not all just black and white anymore. You’ve got mere layered lines and spaces, not a girl’s best friend, you know. Check it out.” She rotates a couple of times, then… “So much more revealed with my persona.”
“Your what?”
DNA slides another curve her way. “Personality, FP. I come in 3D color, detail, predictions and anticipation.” She leans down to FP’s gaze.
FP sighs. “Yeah, well, can’t argue with the anticipation part. But, your rainbow taste in…coverage, or whatever you call that skimpy fare you’re wearin’, could use a bit of taming down, don’t ya think?”
“Little too liberal for you? Good enough for Gaga, good enough for a DNA girl.”
“Gaga?”
DNA fixes a twisted stare on FP. “I know your ‘film noir’ take on identity has its classic place in history, but FP… if you want to stay in the game, just give your creases an extra pinch, watch, learn, and settle for accompanying the real thing now. Okay?”
“Takin’ over, are ya?”
“No, but you could do worse than offering a sophisticate some space and time to do her thing.”
“And what might that be, other than rotating some interesting curves around some over-colorful rungs on that seductive ladder of yours, and… and…”
“A little too much for your black and white habit is it? Well, get used to it. I came up the hard way, and now I’ve got a helix spiral that won’t quit. Got curves and lines, swirls and linkage to an ancestral line that includes genes fit for a mad queen; a lineage line that definitely indicates long or short life; some blond, red and black hair mixed in along the way—Irish and Italian bed fellows always make for interesting complications, you know--, and, the cherry on top is my history of athletic genes on top of athletic genes, even the makings of Olympic medals thrown in for good measure.” She relaxes into a lounging pose. “So, you were saying, ‘you can’t improve perfection?’ Darlin’, compared to your mud puddle in the valley of death, I’m the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Capish?”

BTW, I've been watching and almost turned off, American Horror Story: Hotel, featuring Lady Gaga as a vampire. It's a bit too much senseless gore for me. Makes me wonder if somewhere in her DNA she's the descendent of Vlad the Impaler. ;-)
