Getting back to my roots ...
It was bound to happen sooner or later. The warning signs were there prior to launching my new release in the genre of Contemporary Women’s Fiction on the cusp of autumn, just as the leaves were about to reveal their true colors. Up until then I’d put my life on hold to prepare for the imminent release of my book despite many detours along an arduous journey to get it written.
As cited in a previous story, “The Horror of Realization,” all of my efforts to establish a Facebook Author Page, and acquiring an impressive amount of fans went down the drain shortly after my second novel’s debut through the insult of a lockout. Banned for not having set up a personal account in my name rather than my pseudonym, I wasn’t about to provide a photocopy of my license which wouldn’t have helped my situation in the least. A Sixties chick, I’m not susceptible to blindly following rules I disagree with.
So, back in the saddle with my new Personal Timeline, now attempting to keep up the momentum with book sales and garnering reviews, I found myself caught up in the whirlpool of social media events—one of them, an author takeover. While I pulled off the coup of posting informative threads pertaining to my novel, dashing back and forth to field comments from participants, I’m not up for the challenge of participating in another, even though I made it known I’d sign up for one scheduled in December. Time will tell. As long as I’m in a lineup with my splinter group who call ourselves the Fab Five, the show may go on.
I recently joined a special group whose focus is on brainstorming and coming up with ads better-suited for engaging prospective book buyers and getting them to take action. Of course, that involves a concerted effort of magnitude. But, the bottom line deterring me from taking this any further is that I will not do anything which goes against my grain and makes me feel ashamed of myself by going for a hard sell even though I may be cutting off my own nose to spite my face from not heeding expert advice.
While all this realization has contributed to my taking back control of my senses, I’m trying my hardest to stay in the lead so I can win the “Pitch Perfect Finalist” contest sponsored by UNDERGROUND BOOK REVIEWS. My position has only been possible because of Facebook friends who carried the torch on behalf of their fellow Indie Author: family members and true friends who know the meaning of loyalty and reciprocation.
It also remains to be seen how I hold things together during my month-long Virtual Blog tour with PUMP UP YOUR BOOK in November.
Nearly coming apart at the seams provided the catalyst I needed to regain my sense of self. I am first and foremost, a writer. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that if I want people to know about my book, I need to get the word out. However, I will do so on my own terms, primarily forging my own way on and off social media.
The fact that I am writing this memoir is because I had enough sense to step away from the milieu of social media madness to get back to my roots.

I think it's best if you stick to your writing and work on it. And something like, The Field of Dreams, "If it is good (your writing), they will come."
