As you re-entered the 21st century a large hollowed building stood on its solid field stone foundation.
That strange feeling becomes a part of you, as you re-entered the 21st century. The location had a typical setting it had the opportunity to advance, but selected to stay the same. Even with that, the area had a progressive population with a few modern structures scattered throughout. Walking the narrow streets made you a part of its history, because during its time, these same streets were considered well-built, but now they became over crowded and unusable.
Within these boundaries, a semi-clear river spilt the town into two sections. The traffic patterns were forcing a stop and go condition. At one end stood a proud factory that had survived the many changes of time. These rows of buildings helped form a line along the river of its past. The winds could be seen swirling through and in between the older buildings.
At the same time, high in the sky modern sounds of compressors and fans tried hard to blend in with the sounds of traffic building that carried through the panes of glass. Modern civilization of cars massed and mingled with their single duty of heading somewhere. Every morning the pace increased as the sun continued its prominence of what became the focus of another new beginning.
Streets in all directions were jammed with vehicles and one simple light controlled mankind. The traffic light changed all day long without failing from red to green and back again. Leaving behind those that defied by trying to dominate their movements in between. On occasion, you would hear an outcry coming from a few frustrated drivers as their horns activated through the region. With the increased up beat activity this was the sign of modern life in action.
Walking in the parking lot, you somehow knew life here was never acceptable with advancement. A large hollowed building stood on its solid fieldstone foundation. Heading up one flight of stairs, you became out of breath. Yet you learned and labored to accept what was once a common occurrence.
The floor plans on every level were the same with the exception of the many pipes, which ran throughout the multi floor operation. Each wall had at least nine three-inch pipes stacked one over the other. With an effort to conserve energy, the giant windows had white material permanently attached.
Most of the furniture and equipment came out of another era. You wonder how any organization today could be effective and continue to survive in this modern life of industrial competence. The average worker was satisfied to be earning on the lower pay scale, with the main concept of having and maintaining a job. No work in this community would have been a concern and not acceptable. So within the framework of our advanced society some organizations continue to exist without change.
Guaranteeing their future was apart of this culture and survival became a by-product of need. Companies that started their operations during the 19th century and remained active today in producing products stand out as being successful. Stepping back sometimes becomes the real contemporary lesson of getting ahead.
