I woke about three this morning, confused about what day it was. As the sleep fog cleared, I knew it was Christmas Eve. I thought about Mary, the young girl, and how she must have felt. Or Joseph, her betrothed, how he must have felt.
I imagined how Joseph, sitting around talking to his buddies. "Yes, I'm getting married. She's pregnant, but I've never touched her." The laughter echoed as his friends departed, Joseph's head lowered in shame. But then an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. Matthew 1:20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit (NIV). Again, can you imagine how Joseph would explain that to his friends.
It's amazing how those two young people changed all our lives forever. Can you imagine, if Mary, or Joseph had made a different decision.
I just heard the song, Mary Did You Know.....one of my favorite Christmas songs.
