The morning sun crested the mountainous eastern horizon just like most other days. Today, though, there was an air of finality in the shafts of light filtering through the gauzy window coverings; our daughter would be leaving home to start her new life. Whether we liked it or not, an ineluctable moment - not only marking an end, but also a new beginning - had finally arrived.
.
A deep brooding crept across her features as she talked openly about everything that could go wrong. With others like her; she would be learning firsthand about responsibility, financial budgeting, and how level-headedness and wisdom would have to join hands in a life-long kinship. Leaving the security that had been her ''comforting blankie'' - the one she’d cried with, and laughed with, and cuddled with - over the course of many years, was going to be difficult. Aside from the disinclination we both felt (in her heart) about what was happening, and the concern we saw in those questioning eyes, it was perfectly apparent, as we talked, that she had somehow mustered the strength and resolve that would guide her through the changes.
.
So, Crista; this is going to be a season that will acquaint you with all the freedoms and concerns everyone must face in this world; especially when leaving home for the last time. You’re going to do great. You''ll see. And always remember; we’re only a phone call away. Dearest daughter, may the wind always keep your sails filled, and may your rudder always steer you to those places God intended you to be. We love you in the whole best world bunny froo-froo.
