A True Ghostly Story

Rated "PG13" by the Author.

She reached out to me nightly by crawling up on my bed to stare directly into my eyes. She pleaded for release from the void of non-spirit existence. She haunted me until I sent her on...

The channel was opened and the venue dark

I saw a young maiden trembling, her nakedness stark

I wanted to slumber and rest for the night

Seeking solitude, respite from self-induced plight

My skin had now taken a life of its own

It crawled up my back

I felt chilled to the bone

Suddenly, I knew, I was no longer alone

“She’s back” I mutter, while frozen in fright

She’s back and she sees me in the black of the night.

She’s back and she’s coming to peer into my face.

She’s back, I stop breathing for a moment in space.

Do you see her? Can’t you see her right there?

She is pretty and tiny with lovely blonde hair.

What? You don’t see her? Then open your eyes

She has come nightly since the portal poked through the sky

Again, I reach quickly, to lessen the dread

I grab all the blankets; toss them over my head.

Oh, for more darkness so she can’t see my eyes

Oh, for more distance between her face as she spies

Again, she is crawling from the foot of my bed

Entangled in blankets I cannot raise my head

I want to be quiet, I want her to see

I know she needs something, maybe it’s me

She is one inch, no two, from my very nose

She is probing for answers to questions, supposed

Her eyes are like vacuums as she peers into mine

Her eyes are like lasers undeterred for all time.

Her eyes look like sorrow, her energy cold

I want to embrace her, I want to be bold

But I only muster a pat on my bed

I bid her, lie down beside me and rest her sweet head

Her somberness quells me, it stills me somehow

cause she is alone, I am reminded of how

How the days were like arrows that pierced to my heart

When I was alone in the night and the dark

Whose child is this that settles in by my side?

Who left her, who traveled on death’s placid ride?

Who abandoned this vapor that was once their child?

She is cold now, so cold, vanquished, reviled.

Two weeks are passing and her presence not lacking

I see her again on my bed

I see her come closer, stare into my eyes, not looking

but projecting desire, instead

This babe, she is my babe, she belongs to us all

She’s seeking refuge from the darkness of halls

She wants her mother, she wants to move on

She is another, she needs the beyond

I see her, I really see her, and I feel her too

She is saddened yet lovely so confused is her state

Her lostness pervades the beauty she exudes

Her tears like hot gemstones that sparkle with fate

She says to me, says to me, says to me, “Please”

“Release me, I beg you. Release me please!”

I wish to hold her, I wish to say Yes.

I wish nothing more than to grant her request.

But where will she end up?

Who will be there to care?

Who but the angels see this child on the cusp?

Oh, anyone who is aware, the anyone who knows she’s still here.

I see her, I see her, I swear!

She slept by my side when her thoughts were just fear

I have seen this sweet baby who stared into my eyes

Move on to dimensions where light fills her life

I think it's the woman who would not let go of the child's spirit to let it rest in peace. Sometimes the ones who are living need to let go. Great story/poem!

Your poem reads like one of those recurring, unsolvable bad dreams that are really hard to shake. It's really much better when you can pat by your side and a real angel settles in all warm and comforting.
