This is a prison memoir. 

Language is a form of Resistance!

Kenya Resistance Writer, NGUGI WA THIONG’O fights with languages in drama form to prevail. He was imprisoned in the Kamiti Security prison in Kenya in 1978 for writing and producing a play. Resistance is a drama leading to survival is the theme of his life. His language resistance stand confronts evil by standing and saying, NO. He grew up in a tenant farm during English colonial occupation . This Land was stolen during the occupation in the 1920s. He chooses the ethnic languages of the natives to make his resistance. 

Gikuyu is an ethnic language he learned through native stories while he was young. The play he wrote and was arrested for is composed of stories in this language. The play is a land theft post independence story where the land theft was heisted with the aid of a Christian Church. Hence the reason for the arrest and censure. A theater is built among the shacks. In the process of theater building and hiring worker actors the collective strength of the people is recovered and a new sense of sovereignty is recaptured. The KANU Government closed the play and arrested the author making him a language warrior for the many dialects in Africa and around the world. There are 54 countries in Africa. Each country has 30-50 dialects or languages. Heed this message and join the resistance.
