     sexual politics
My communist ex-husband still haunts me

My ex-husband was an Italian communist. He believed in sharing everything including his wife.
His sexual fantasies were about sharing me with other men, during our lovemaking he would want to
know names of men I would want to sleep with and what love acts I would perform on them. He’d have
me watch pornos (his favorite pastime), orgies always orgies of couples swapping partners.
I was very young and found it all confusing , irritating disturbing. Something inside me shouting
It was all wrong. I believed lovers belonged exclusively and absolutely to each other and that even
cheating in thought is cheating. He said he loved me but I couldn’t, didn’t wasn’t convinced that he loved
me . He had crushed my beliefs of love and I found it embarrassing to talk about it to my family and
friends and mostly afraid to talk about with him.
He was blond tall and handsome, I was the envy of my friends but I had become a good actress knowing
The outwards signs to display and not show my true emotions, As soon as I could I rushed off to
Europe to study I told myself but had something of a plan.
Having an affair might have been an unconscious act but what the hell I was a classic happy-go lucky
Woman in love action just like he wanted me. Love is a funny thing however and often hits hard and fast
And I fell in love in Europe. When I was certain I had found what I had been searching for I no longer
Wanted to be the same and didn’t want to go back home. My lover didn’t want me to leave and would
Have wanted us to run away to Switzerland . I knew I had to do the right thing . I knew that my ex-
husband would be sad but was also sure that all things had to end between us.
My ex wasn’t terribly surprised or crushed crushed . We can fix this he said we’ll just have
A baby, but actually freaked out when I walked out.
It wasn’t because he was a communist I thought that I broke my marriage vows leaving behind security,
comfort distinction and all kudos that marriage can offer a woman yet decades later after feeling a little
better and less scared I am sure what I loathed most was the communist in him. I loath the complete
central plan of control of the state, the absolute authority of the state, the refusal to recognize the
individuals and its needs. I find it unacceptable sharing everything alike, different people have and aspire
for different things and whose to say what is enough for one? His body was like a communist state

controlling most uncomfortable in positions he took in lovemaking and even hurting.
As a liberal I don’t necessarily support “no rich no poor” however do like the utopian idea that earthly
Wealth Be shared among human kind and forever put an end to poverty. We have witnessed the result
of Communism however the struggles and miseries of those people forced to to flee, countries who
had to fight to free themselves from complete control of the State, besides it has not proved to remove
poverty but rather enslave and force people to live in poverty with minimal wages that I am convinced
over and over again my beliefs, my hesitations fears, psychological disorders were well founded and
justified.
Even at this point in time my ex-husband still blows my mind as I still remember him saying that the
NDP’s in Canada are as close as they come to Communism.
Do communists vote?
Do the NDP advocate abolition of private property or inheritance?
Do they try to centralize credit in the hands of the State and a national bank end in exclusive power?
I’m repeating myself when I say I don’t necessarily support the ideal “no rich no poor” but calling the
NDP communists is like calling the Conservatives Nazi’s. Looking at the NDP’s platform they would
Probably implement child-day care, re-establish health care system, make housing affordable, probably
Fund post-secondary education, decrease personal taxes and crack down on crime. I am not saying
either all this would be good for the Canadian economy but it would be far from calling it Communism,
And I believe Canadians believe in taking home more than a welfare check.
Then NDP’s platform may include many interventions into the economy and society but certaily don’t
Advocate for complete central plan to control and there is certainly a difference between social housing
And banning private property, The same could be said for wanting more public transit options and while
Canada generally speaking pushes more for primary industrialization, the NDP and Green Party tend to
Oppose massive and disruptive environmental works. It is true that the NDP favors the extension
Of factories and instruments of production by the State but we would also get good business practice
For industrialization , we would be improving agriculture wastelands and expending productivity all that is
Desirable and not exactly communism.
Like the rest of the country and most of the western world the NDP believes child labour is bad and
Everybody deserves a basic education and we could all benefit from that and that too is not exactly
Communism.
Communism hates free speech and particularly hates hate criticism. I n our free world we don’t want to
Nationalize ISP, telephone companies,. railways companies, postal services. We support net neutrality
Which means all data be treated equal. It means stopping ISP from controlling what data gets priority
In their network and no where in net neutrality is a government allowed to control how to use the
internet.
Communism believes people should work till they drop as far as I know abolishing retirement is not
Part of the NDP plan either.
And in saying all this it doesn’t make me a supporter of the NDP but simply want to repeat to my ex-
husband the difference that the NDP support and accept capitalism and just want to make it a little more
fair and humane.
It’s, many decades later I realize but the break up of a marriage is a terrible and painful thing, you grieve
for a long time and feel you have failed at what was most important. You never forget the partner you
had chosen for life and go the long run. it’s like mourning a loss though the other is still living.
There’s politics in a marriage, power struggles as a fact but when two people with very extreme point of
views clash as we did and can’t think of anything special or specific to hold them there they must go their
separate ways.
I can’t wipe the memories, he still haunts me , he is a constant reminder , a fear a threat to my
Democracy and free world.
