South of Eden
It appears difficult
to keep sin out,
lust is not obsolete.
Looking simple and enticing
god has fallen like a blaspheme
upon the joyous.
Sitting on the stone
by this sedate stream
flowing slowly down
to its calm sense of balance
there's no downward-sloping
under my feet.
This present is what I know
having defeated the power of choice
the conscience is suave
like gilded metal;
I'm sure if we keep reorganizing
saturated moral and religious dogmas
a complete new system of rationale
a whole new perspective
and profound knowledge of physical sciences
will keep us coming back.
