The early pioneers in the fight against dementia are administered a new miracle drug to combat the effects of their condition and bring hope for all those people around the world who are afflicted witrh this disease .
Survivors Of Dementia
By Paul McCann

Jo was not one for wasting words . She always spoke her mind and never cared what people thought of her . Most of the time people knew where they stood with her . Her work schedule as a registered nurse was so busy she never had time for a social life .

She had worked at the city hospital since graduating ten years before she was told that she had the early onset of dementia . On that day things took a new perspective in her life . She realised why she had so many recent distractions and confusion in her everyday life and whyn her job had so many new challenges and difficulties . In one sense she was relieved to have an answer to all of the latest emotional and psychological issues that was causing her added stress and now everything made some sense .
Up until now Jo had been in control of things in managing her everyday life .but now she had to face the unexpected and unwanted condition of living with dementia.

After she quit her job she had a holiday and visited some old friends.
Then she retreated a little form people and spent time reflecting on things . She had a special place where she liked to go early in the morning and it was there in the botanical gardens at Woodvale Park in the City where she first noticed how everything around her was changing
She saw new plants she had never saw before and sometimes little animals would come over to her . Now she was able to focus on things she had never seen before like how brilliant the white was on the Hibiscus and daisies and how blue the sky was . It was almost like her eyes had been opened for the first time .
From that day she became aware of many changes in the world around her and enjoyed her regular escape to Woodvale Park .
Back in her apartment she had already started to sort through many things in her cupboards and label things for storage as well as pass some things in to local charities .
Now in her thinking , life was just beginning over . She looked at it as her second childhood as accepted it into her life like a friend she had met for the first time .
Initially after all the some tests were performed with assessments and scans , she was informed that her condition was as suspected and she was diagnosed with early onset dementia .
At first some therapy groups had been offered but she decided not to go there . She had already accepted that things would never resume back to normal again or whatever normal was .
So she began to cope with all her daily tasks , living with her condition . In her mind it was a condition that should never have occurred .
One morning as she sat on a bench in Woodvale Park , she never bothered to answer the gentleman who said good morning as he walked past , in fact she never really actually heard him .
So for some reason the man sat down next to her ,.
“What a beautiful morning “
He said , Jo never answered .
The man persisted ,
“You know I never noticed how beautiful the flowers were until the day I was told I have a condition they call dementia and . .“
“ Awh , excuse me ,what did you say , I’m sorry did you say you have dementia .“
Jo was now attracted to hear what he had to say and the man continued to speak ,
“Well yes and no , I mean I did but I don’t because , I’m cured now .“
“Cured from dementia ?” Jo asked
“ Yes , I am , see I had early onset dementia but now thanks to a new vaccine , I have recovered .“
Jo somehow was now really very interested and she said .
“My name is Jo and I have just been told I have early onset dementia “
The man replied
“Bob’s my name and I’m pleased to meet you Jo . I know how you feel and I used to probably think all the same things as you do and go through similar experiences everyday nut now , my life has taken a different turn and I am beginning again back to where I had left off things before I had dementia .“
“So what is all this about .“
“To coin a phrase Jo , it’s all about a new chemical called UB111 just developed by neuroscience that stops never damage and now doctors have confirmed with tests I have no positive results for dementia .:
Jo answered .
“I’m a nurse and I have never heard of that treatment before Bob”
“Well neither had I until I met a Doctor one day who walked into the church were I work as a volunteer . He had also been previously diagnoses with dementia and that propelled him to do extensive research into a cure for the condition .“
Jo interrupted
“So this Doctor had dementia as well .“
Bob took a card from his wallet and gave it to her and said .
“Yeah he did ., Here take this card , if you want to talk to him yourself and believe just like I did . You too can be a survivor of dementia .“
Jo took the card and could hardly wait to call him .
Bob continued ,
“ Doctor Alan Welby has made a full recovery from dementia and made himself a promise to help as many people as possible and from that day he started to attending dementia group therapy sessions , like the one I was attending at our local church hall “.
“Thanks Bob for the information . I’ll certainly be in touch .“
Jo for the first time felt something emotional happen inside her like a kind of cognitive reaction . For the last few weeks or two she had been trapped within the prison of distraction that would not release her .
This chance meeting with Bob was like the key that broke her out from that dark cell . That evening she rang Doctor Welby and he told her more information about UB11 treatment . After their conversation she met him later that week for dinner . On that night the Doctor brought some UB11 for Jo and she immediately took the offer and went on a course of injections for 21 days . It wasn’t too long before she noticed that she had more control over things in her life .
Jo felt like a refugee from a war that had been waged by dementia and like a pioneer she felt she could be a voice for all the millions of people around the world who had also become a victims of dementia/
As the weeks progressed Doctor Welby introduced Jo to some other dementia survivors who had already begun to rebuild their lives .
Bob was one of those people and for the first time in her life Jo had met a man she admired and respected . What Bob had done for her was more she could have ever expected . Jo and Bob met in the park everyday and Bob was able to tell her how happy she looked and he could notice an aura so radiant about her . He knew that Jo too had been cured from her condition .
Jo was now actively involved in a relationship that she had never expected to happen . After the UB11 treatment was finished she never looked back . Thanks to Bob who had emerged like a warrior on her battle field . She had fallen in love with Bob and it was magic .
Three months after her diagnosis not only had Jo been cured from the dementia in her life , but now she had found a man called Bob who she loved and wanted to spend the rest of her life with . Bob and Jo were married . Within a year of Jo and Bob had a beautiful baby girl who they called Candle , who had become the light of their lives . They all lived happily for many years helping and reassuring as many people as they could who had been told they had a been diagnosed with dementia .

A feel-good story that everyone would wish for, especially those diagnosed with early stage dementia. Unfortunately it is fiction. Just last week, a study found out certain drugs for other conditions can bring on early-stage dementia. So far there is no reversing the process once the neurons have been damaged.
