     There is Hope

Log date 03152069: The big cities were no longer safe havens, my dearest. The sun dances in people's heads like water rolling uphill.

This is unlike Iraq and Afghanistan tours.

Imaginings.

Dirt.

Filth.

Time to escape off the grid.

Glad I prep'd for this even when they laughed when times were good and easy.

Now, they're sick by the droves, or half-gone. Packed rations for the journey: MREs, and 200 rounds of ammo plus a grenade for a special occasion and last breath.

Thinking about we we came to be like we are now. Funny how life changes in a heart-beat.

Now I'm headed off the grid post haste.

Myles, your chapter (story) sounds like something that I have been feeling: Like we are now into 'Chapter One' of a non-fictional science-fiction novel.
