Mazy Had a Dream
The following day, Mazy woke up to the smell of coffee. It led her straight into the kitchen. Her long hair was all messy and out of place. Her robe was on backward.
“Well, good morning, honey. Sleep well?” Darcy asked as she looked at her bare feet, her hair, and her robe. “Did you toss and turn all night?”
“Awe, man… I had a dream, and I know I was in that dream. It was so real.” Mazy pushed her hair back and kind of fixed it in a messy bun. “I need coffee.”
“Coming up, honey. What did you dream about? Wait! Let me guess… Drake and Helen?”
“No, but I was IN that dream, Darcy.” She added two cubes of sugar and some cream to her coffee.
“Well, tell me your dream before I have to get dressed to go to work. I can’t wait to hear this.”
“It’s Sunday. Why you need to go to work?”
“Because the bride who’s coming in for a fitting at 11:00 a.m. works as a nurse, and this is the only day she has off. Continue with your dream… I can’t wait to hear this.”
Mazy took a sip of fresh hot coffee, and she began to tell Darcy what her dream was about.
“I was in the house that I lived in before I sold it after Bob died. I didn’t have a big kitchen. It was not the same inside, but I know I’m in my house in the dream. Someone from the hallway comes into this huge kitchen and places two folding tables in the middle of the big kitchen. I asked what the tables were for? No one answers me. Not one person.”
“Did they see you?”
“Yes, I know they see me, and I know they hear me, but no one answers me. So, I ask again. No answer. I ask if this is a wedding because a big three-tier wedding cake is coming in my door… and behind the cake, people begin coming inside. They place the cake on the table with no table cloth or covering. Nothing is decorated.”
“Oh, this is not your way of doing things at all. You would’ve had that table full of flowers and napkins, and for sure a lace table cloth over it. Sure, it was your house?”
“Yes, I’m sure. It was the house I sold, but it was different.” Mazy took another sip of her hot coffee and pushed some of her long hair out of her face.
“Then what happened?” Darcy loved hearing other people’s dreams.
“Well… this is the odd part. A little girl came into the room in a wedding dress and a long veil over her face. A beautiful dress. All white. Lace all over and a long train behind the dress. There were shimmering lights on the front of the dress…or … maybe it was sequins. I don’t know, but it was beautiful to see her outfit. I couldn’t see her face.”
“How old was she?” asked Darcy.
“Oh…maybe four. Then four other little girls, about the same age, come in with a wedding dress on. The five little girls were dressed so beautifully, but the room wasn’t decorated at all. I walked around the room and talked to some people, and not one of them told me what was going on in my house. It’s like I wasn’t even there.”
“Is that the end of your dream?”
“No. It was a nightmare. Since no one would talk to me, I went to the cake to get a piece of it, and the cake is fake. I can’t cut the cake because it’s like rubber."
“What?”
“Yeah, Darcy. So, I asked the lady near me why is the cake not real. She answers me, everything here is not real. It’s all fake. Everything and everyone is fake.”
“Wow… weird shitty dream, Mazy.”
“I know, but I finally have someone who talks to me, so I’m going to find out what’s going on. When I begin to speak, this lady comes right in my face and screams… ‘IT’S NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS. LEAVE.’ When she screamed, I screamed because SHE was plastic. Fake as can be and everyone else too. Not like mannequins, just like plastic dolls. That’s the end of my dream."”
