The other characters for which I had planned to write.
Okay, so, to my surprise, The Dawn of Cy-Man has nearly 500 views, which is more than twice the amount than each of my other stories. I thought that I would shed a bit more light on this project, which is still on the back burner.
In total, there are almost thirty supers for this story, and there were eight other authors whom I let choose from the list which supers for whom they would write. I took the remaining supers that weren't chosen, and below are their dossiers and an idea for their creation stories.
The idea for this project was to have each author write a creation story for their characters, which would be the first series of short stories for the project, starting with Cy-Man's. My idea was to make it into a graphic novel series, and after the creation stories, would come the battles, and the progression of each character.
First up, is the other superhero I chose named, Ferroid:
Supername: Ferroid
Super Type: Hero
Given Name: N/A
Species: Unknown
Gender: N/A
Gender Association: Unknown
Sexual Preference: Unknown
Height: 65”/5’5”
Weight: 8,261 lbs.
Hair Color: N/A
Eye Color: N/A
Nationality: N/A
Ethnicity: N/A
Birthdate: TBD
Birthplace: TBD
Hometown: N/A
Mother: N/A
Father: N/A
Occupation: N/A
Superpowers: A sentient blob of liquified manganese-bronze-tungsten alloy that can solidify into any shape. This alloy is incredibly strong, and has high resistances to radiation, temperatures, oxidization, and most acids and other corrosive materials. Has super strength, can stretch itself, can turn itself and hands into melee weaponry. Doesn’t have internal organs, and there is no known way to critically damage Ferroid. Can go through passages that are as small as one molecule in diameter.
Weaknesses: Can’t solidify or change shape when being electrified, can’t hold shape when too hot, and is forced to solidify if made cold enough, despite having good resistance to temperatures.
Sidekick: N/A
My idea for the creation of Ferroid is during a fight between Cy-Man and Ohmega vs. Paradox, (maybe others are involved too?). The fight is happening at a warehouse that Cy-Man has learned is linked to The Chymera, when really it’s a trap and Paradox is there waiting. During the fight, Paradox’s dark matter collides with Ohmega’s sonic power and a container full of the alloy gets sandwiched, busting open. A little while later, everyone stops to watch as the spilt metal slowly coalesces into a humanoid form, only to soon after lose its shape and splash the ground again (maybe this is a chance for Paradox to escape?). Later after the fight is over, Ferroid tries more successfully to take shape, looking somewhat like a shiny version of Cy-Man (maybe taking on a more unique form later?). Ferroid then has to come to grips with what it means to be a sentient being and at the same time seeks out Cy-Man as he saw him save Ohmega’s life at one point during the fight.
Next up, is Mr. Ecks, one of the supervillains:
Supername: Mr. Ecks
Alter Egos: Vecks, Eckscaliber, T. Wrecks, Dr. R. Ecks
Super Type: Villain
Given Name: James Eckholm
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Gender Association: Each identify as male
Sexual Preference: Each are heterosexual
Height: 67”/5’7” (7’1” as T. Wrecks (TW), 5’4” as Vecks (V), 6’2” as Eckscaliber (E), 5’2” as Dr. R. Ecks (DRE))
Weight: 142 lbs. (446 lbs. as TW, 235 lbs as V, 197 lbs as E)
Hair Color: Dark Brown (TW - Bald, V - Peppery Grey, E - Black, DRE - Black)
Eye Color: Green (TW - Blue, V - Green, E - Brown, DRE - Brown)
Nationality: Canadian (V - Israeli, TW - American, E - American, DRE - Indian)
Ethnicity: Caucasian (E - African American, DRE - Asian)
Birthdate: September 22, 1983 (TW - 4/29/1996, V - 8/16/1948, E - 5/24/1999, DRE - 4/16/1973)
Birthplace: Moosehorn, Manitoba (TW - Helena, MT, V - Qalansawe, Israel, E - Chicago, IL, DRE - Hyderabad, India)
Hometown: Dubai, U.A.E.
Mother: Wendy Eckholm (estranged)
Father: Christopher Eckholm (estranged)
Occupation: Mr. Ecks tends to claim that he is a lot of different things, but most commonly goes with Collector of Rarities, V - Accountant, TW - Professional Wrestler, E - Thug, DRE - has degrees in many fields of science (claims to be former co-founder of NewLife Corporation (refer to Cyberon’s story))
Superpowers: Other than being a super-rich, debonair narcissist and having access to unique technologies that can synthesize (as in not as super) some powers, Mr. Ecks has no superpowers. Vecks has the uncanny ability to spoil anyone’s party. In other words, he uses mysterious powers to apply a weakness to you that he (or the other personalities) can exploit. Eckscaliber is a street thug who now comes with a chromed out pair of glocks that never jam or need reloading and can be fully automatic. He rarely misses. T. Wrecks is a super-strong wrestler that’s 7’1” and 346 lbs. All damage dealt to T. Wrecks is turned into bludgeoning damage, of which he can take an inordinate amount. He has a penchant for destroying buildings. Dr. R. Ecks is a super-genius capable of writing the prescription for anything. He is responsible for designing the alloy that can be infused with dark matter and most of the tech that went into making Paradox’s armor. Unbeknownst to the readers until we decide to reveal it, is a hidden super named Oracle, that reluctantly helps Mr. Ecks. Part of the reason he is so rich and knows about the supers, sometimes before they know. (My thoughts are he knows about Dreadknaught, and selfishly and unselfishly helps some supers to prepare Earth for this. He doesn’t know the outcome, but knows something big is coming.)
Weaknesses: Each personality will accomplish smaller goals together, but they each have their own agendas, which may or may not fall in line with Mr. Ecks’s agenda, so he tends not to bring them out very often. (At some point in the timeline he will lose control (have a midlife/identity crisis?), randomly changing throughout the personalities, and this is where he becomes a supervillain, sort of)
Sidekick: N/A
Creation Story
James suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD). Despite his troubled childhood, he grew up idolizing Indiana Jones and characters like him. He fancied himself an explorer. On his first expedition, he discovered a buried city near Crooked Tree in Belize. This city belonged to a previously unknown civilization that seems to pre-date any civilization on Earth, even those responsible for Gobekli Tepe. From what he could gather, their god, Shi’Bontua, was a shapeshifter. As he deciphered further he discovered that he was part of their prophecy. Whomever breaks the seal of Shi’Bontua (which James broke to get into the city), would be cursed to bear his many forms. Instead of being cursed, however, James found that he could control when he changes between his now amplified personalities, and that when he did change into them, he shapeshifted into them. His normal personalities became supers in their own right. Walter Cohen becomes ‘Vecks’. Sh’mar Woodson becomes ‘Eckscaliber’. Tanner “T. Rex” Rexmann becomes ‘T. Wrecks’. Dr. Rishi Acharya becomes ‘Dr. R. Ecks’.
This next supervillain, I feel, is a very interesting one. I'm actually utilizing the tabletop role-playing game I'm designing to help design, Ephyas, the Stormbringer:
Supername: Ephyas, the Stormbringer
Super Type: Villain
Given Name: Ephyas Hilyindarr
Species: High Elf
Gender: Male
Gender Association: Identifies as male
Sexual Preference: Bisexual (in the closet)
Height: 61”/5’1”
Weight: 102 lbs.
Hair Color: Silver
Eye Color: Pale blue
Nationality: El’Uaan
Ethnicity: N/A
Birthdate: El’Donas 33, 3497 A.C.
Birthplace: Crescent City, El’Uaa
Hometown: Three Rivers, Tygras
Mother: Calyar Hilyindarr
Father: Felaen Hilyindarr
Occupation: Gammon’s Secretary at High Wizard’s Society
Superpowers: Ephyas is a journeyman electromancer, a wizard that specializes in casting magic that deals with the element ‘energy’, essentially electricity. On top of spellcasting, Ephyas has a number of artifacts and magical items as follows:
Robe of Tides - Looks like waves flowing around him and allows him to get things wet, even at a distance to make his energy-based spells even more effective, provides decent defense (especially strong against projectiles, pretty strong vs bludgeoning), allows him to breathe underwater, and swim with incredible agility and speed, cannot be set on fire, the cloak must be left in water at least 8 hours per day. (does not sound like water running, it is silent)
Ring of Warding - Aids in defense
Boots of Levitation
Mindstone - a small stone that floats around his head improving his intellect, which is important for his spellcasting
He has a flask of a mesker oil mixture he got from an alchemist that protects him from electricity
A wand he made from fulgurite from the Bay of Dead Sails that is his focus for casting spells which is the only material component needed for them
Spellbook
Casting method - spells require an amount of fatigue, based on level and any modifications made to the spell. Being a specialist wizard, his casting time for spells of his specialty is near instantaneous. Each night he must memorize each spell he wants to be able to cast the next day only once. The fatigue required wouldn’t allow him to cast each spell he knows, for example, but he may cast the same spell as many times as his endurance allows in a day.
Weaknesses: When he runs out of mesker oil, he will be vulnerable to his spells due to the robe. His body is frail and cannot withstand much damage.
Sidekick: Ephyas has a familiar. A falcon named Striker.
Creation Story
A group of kids are playing a TTRPG when suddenly Ephyas gains awareness and casts a spell breaking the ‘4th wall’ entering the real world. Chaos ensues as he tries to figure out this foreign realm and can’t seem to get back to his world.
Spoiler alert! This next part describes the final boss fights, so to speak:
The final villains come together. There is a brief description of Dreadknaught in Cy-Man’s creation story. Dreadknaught is a plasmoid, an extremely rare, if not a one-of-a-kind type, entity. The little sun is just that, a tiny white dwarf it uses as a power source. This strange, immortal creature has journeyed through the universe for aeons upon aeons and has elected itself a regulator, or marshall of the universe, stripping civilizations all over of things that it deems are too powerful or unbalanced. The containers mentioned in Cy-Man’s story are just like the one in Paradox’s creation story, each one holding something unique from somewhere in the universe. SAIA is just one of trillions just like it that serve this entity maintaining the containers. This is what brings Dreadknaught to Earth, along with wanting to reclaim the container that had the dark matter in it (refer to Paradox’s story) as he gets close enough to catch a whiff of the trail left by SAIA and the container it was attached to. Dreadknaught will first send down an army of mechs it collected from some place, but after learning about the supers, will unleash Typhon. Typhon is a mountain-sized beast of unknown origin, and, so far, unknown powers other than being extremely gigantic and ferocious. (Any ideas?)
On top of all that, a new arch-nemesis is created around this time. A nanite swarm that has slowly been congealing over the course of the timeline. These nanites are from Cy-Man’s suit as it gets damaged. The reason this swarm becomes sentient (not a perfect word for what I’m describing), is that some of the nanites that have been cast off in different ways have found homes in other people. Not providing them with any benefits or powers, but using their energy to stay active (alive?). All these nanites including the swarm are what are considered to be The Nanoid. Also, Dreadknaught’s presence is what brings it to full consciousness, so to speak. This entity is able to mimic pretty much everything Cy-Man can do, but also is able to control all the people that have nanites in them, except Cy-Man, which is what gives The Nanoid a sort of pseudo-consciousness through a hive-mind of the nanites and all the people (slaves? golems?). It also doesn’t have a fragile human at the center of it. I sort of feel like The Nanoid is a guilty-conscience type villain for Cy-Man.
I figure at this point in the timeline, there will still be some supers (including villains) around other than Cy-Man, as all of this will be a literal monumental challenge, not only with Typhon and The Nanoid, but Dreadknaught is essentially a spaceship about half the size of Earth, and who knows what other tricks it might have up its [sleeve?]. I haven’t even given a thought as to what powers the plasmoid has itself.
My idea for Cy-Man is that a way is figured out to take out Dreadknaught, but it requires him to be sacrificed in the process. Eventually, Cy-Man agrees, as he is the last super remaining, which brings balance back to the world. It doesn’t have to end like this, but I had never planned on making it a continuing series like a comic book. Plus, I feel tragedies are so few and far between, and Cy-Man (and the others that help him) at least get to be martyrs that save the world, and the universe from an immortal pest.
Also, please let me know what you think about these characters and how the ending comes across. Is it too epic? Would it be cool if Dreadknaught made different formations with all the containers, like as per needed, or even a vanity-based quirk?
I also talked about another style of ending, where SAIA and some of the supers survive, but as the containers rain down onto Earth, new mysterious things and supers arrive to begin another series. I might post the notes on that if enough of you show an interest.
When I'm ready, I do plan to pursue this project once again, but I will have to be more selective as to the authors I include.
Thank you so much for reading this. Please consider leaving some feedback. Have a wonderful day....[[|:-)
I quickly waded through your Supers. They certainly are an ungainly lot, but show a lot of creativity on your part. You already know that I would not be wanting to be one of your authors within the bounds of your project. But by your reads from Death of Cy-Man, it looks like you are not going to have trouble getting authors join in.
