Story about a future were there was a population crisis that required an ingenious intervention to change the situation
World wars , famines , disease and then a deadly viruses affecting people twenty years and over, had taken most on the population on the planet leaving infants and teenagers to carry on . There were also a contingent of scientists who had been locked in isolation working in laboratories on a growth spurt project that was the only chance for the human race to multiply and repopulate the earth . This project was to bring a group of young people from different countries into new growth which would see them become adults long before their time . There were many sceptics who said it would never work and what good would it do anyway .
The scientists involved with the project had confidence that their experiment would have a positive outcome for the future of the human race where at that time three quarters of the global population were under 10 years of age .
A ballot draw was decided to select those who would be connected to the chemical mind and body transplants inside the virtual reality vision control chambers where life could be accelerated at an unbelievable pace .
One of the first to enter the chamber was a seven year old boy called Adz . They placed him on bed inside the exit-terminal chamber and attached all of the tubes and wires and all the electrical components around his body then closed the chamber and started the first of the growth spurt programs .
They started switching on all the computerised equipment and opening all the chemical drivers with advanced hormonal solutions and a batch of genetic implants that had been pre-stored in frozen containers for this project .
Adz was fully awake at the beginning of the process and was able to see the outdoor world through portal screens around the chamber . His innocence years where stolen in seconds followed by a series of emotional challenges that introduced him to fears and other feelings he had never known before . He had tears and laughter . He felt this vulnerability of being isolated . There were questions running through his and then all the equipment stared to shut down and the whirring sounds and flashing lights stopped .
The chamber opened up and he was assisted by the people there to disconnect all of the tubes and wires that were attached to his body . He was standing there before them in a world that seemed to ask, where has the child gone ?
Then he remembered and realised that he had grown up so fast . Overnight .
It had happened. In an instant, the child became a man .
The growth project had worked even though it was hard growing for him to grow up alone in an exit-terminal chamber .
He was taken to an assembly area where other young people stood . They had also been part of the growth spurt experiments . After all were accounted the project team took all of the participants to a reproduction centre where they would be living for at least twelve months before they could be released back into the community .
Within a few months the results were encouraging with hundreds of pregnancies being confirmed . New arrivals were frequently coming in now and in different countries there were now thousands of young men and women who went through the growth spurt project.
After twelve months the first arrivals were allowed back into the community to live normal lives .
As time passed by , the population of the earth was increasing at an encouraging rate . The lessons of the past were never forgotten and wars on the planet were non existent . Mothers and fathers taught their children well and children grew up in a peaceful world where the global population was still slowly growing .
