Story about a man with skills that saved the lives of many
At the corner of Ladyking Drive and Adkins Street Hughie stood at the front door of O’Shea’s nightclub every night from 7 to 11 pm . He was the friendly doorman who checked people in as they were all out for a good night . Now and then, there would be someone with an attitude that Hughie had to refuse admission to . Most nights there was never any bother and everyone was happy .
Hughie had a gut feeling about people and could tell by one look if anyone was up to no good . He had served in the army and afterwards he joined the police so he was a gifted and skilled man who had been trained to kill . He could smell a rat in a crowded room or sense danger brewing . It’s what made him tick and he was good at it .
So it was an evening just like all the rest , crowds were making their way along Ladyking Drive to get into the night club but Hughie noticed someone in the crowd on the sidewalk that disturbed him . He could sense something and smelt a rat . Rather than confront him he decided to let him go inside and then watch what he was up to , because by way he walked and the way he was dressed , Hughe knew he was carrying a weapon of some kind and didn’t want to create a flash point on the crowded sidewalk .
Hughie radioed for another member of security to come to the front door to take over for a while at the door, then he went inside and kept out of sight .
He watched the suspect come in and take a seat in the corner of the night club. Within ten minutes two other individuals went over and joined him at a table .
Hughie then realised there were three suspicious people he had to be aware of . So he observed them for a while and slowly made his way closer to the table where the three sat talking . Two of them had finished their drinks so Hughie went over a lifted their empty glasses but at the same time he placed a drink coaster that had a listening device concealed within .
Then he took the glasses to the bar and then took a seat behind the bar and tuned in to what was being said .
He heard the main suspect say.
“I don’t want to do this job but the money is too good to refuse”.
“Who ordered you to do the job ?”
One of them asked and the reply came ,.
“I never know who . I just get the call and I’m told where to go and what to do . Then it’s up to me to say yes or no , So I said yes to this one .:”
The other individual said.
“Well then as you’re here , just remember there are three of us with three bombs and no one is walking out alive from here tonight. We will each have a corner and at exactly the same time which will be in twenty minutes , all of us are going to press the remote switch for the bombs we have strapped around our bodies ?:
Hughie took a deep breath and started to put a plan together . One wrong move could be a deadly mistake .At 35 years of age he didn’t want to be leaving the world behind as he still had places he wanted to go and things he wanted to do .
Hughie waited for the three men to reorder drinks which they did and then he heavily spiked each one of them with a narcotic he called Semtex as it worked like dynamite in knocking people unconscious .
The waiter brough the three drinks to the bombers . They all toasted and drank together and they all went unconscious together . Hughie immediately was right there standing over the three bodies .
Some of the crowd in the nightclub looked concerned but Hughie said ,.
“Don’t worry folks , everything’s under control . Some people just don’t know when they’re had enough to drink “
Then he took his radio and called for help from other members of the security team who came immediately .Hughie informed them of the situation and the three unconscious bombers were taken down into the cellar in the basement where Hughie disarmed the bombs .
Hughie informed special branch and immediately an anti-terrorist team arrived in the back alley to take the would-be bombers away to prison for further questioning and their court appearance . Nothing was released to the media and no one was made aware of what could have been a slaughterhouse .
The manager and owner of the nightclub was informed and he immediately arrived at the club to thank Hugh .
“If you weren’t here tonight , this building would just be a mess . The club would be totally gutted and destroyed . I’ll make it up to you “
Hugh looked around and said ,
“What is it that makes these terrorists do the things they do ?”
The manager said ,
“I’ve had threats recently but won’t pay them the protection money they want for me to stay open . I will never give in to their kind . Thanks for keeping us all safe tonight.“
