The driver heading Northwards through the underground tunnel began to overtake on a passage he drilled with precision and skill jumping in and out of the lanes in the Harbour tunnel that was built to alleviate the congestion of the peak hour traffic that years before had seen traffic jams of cars and trucks standing still .
Now under the tunnel the over spill of traffic could flow free out of sight from the harbour lights and city streets .
In the tunnel he drove at speed that raised the fist of other drivers as the traffic began to get busier .
This driver was now driving , like a demon against the flow of traffic in a dangerous zone under the ground where the light of day had been locked away and other drivers began to make way for him who wanted complete control of the tunnel , free to come and go between lanes at times of his own choosing until he lost control of the car crashing into into a truck that had changed lanes at the same time . The collision created a major incident with a huge pile up of buckled up vehicles blocking the tunnel . A fire started and toxic fumes began to take its toll on those who had left their cars to see the damage around them .
The entire tunnel was blocked and would take many hours to clear . There were some grubs wearing face masks who started stealing from cars and the people inside who were either injured or dead .
It was chaos .
There were a small group of people with face masks who had found a service door in the tunnel and managed to open it making their way into an unknown section under the city filled with homeless people had also discovered this underground domain that was constructed for maintainence of the tunnel infrastructure .
The homeless community had made it their home and were not that welcoming of their new visitors . After some bargaining and cash donations the homeless community decided they would help their guests make their way out back to the surface of the city streets , however they blindfolded all those who were lost and in need of help just in case they might tell the authorities their whereabouts .
They walked for about a half hour in their blindfolds were removed and they found themselves standing on a railway platform where they parted company .
Now with service available they were able to use their mobile phones to contact their family and friends to assure them that they were safe and well . Some stayed on the station waiting for a train other survivors made their way to the street to get a taxi to get home .
For the few who had survived they had stories to tell , but there were also many other sad stories that wrote themselves in an open book of tragic tales from the tunnel under the city .
