There’s something about when we give to others
without expecting anything in return miracles can happen
James Bleeker was a soldier who was sent to war in Vietnam in the 1960s . Bleeker, like so many young soldiers was a young buck just out of school who was introduced early to the horrible events that happened every day in countries at war .
James managed to survive the war but not long after returning home he was told he had a brain tumour and would only have a few years to live .
As soon as James was given the news of his cancer he made a promise to dedicate the rest of his life to giving something back to the world and maybe somehow try to make the world a better place , so he became a volunteer with ICROSS international .
On his first trip to a small village in Zimbabwe he saw first-hand people dying and crying and children with sickness and hunger . The sight of so much suffering inspired him to into action . He wanted to bring smiles on the faces of children who had only known sorrow and tears . He wanted to bring kind words instead of screaming and abuse , good food to empty stomach , the sound of laughter to the frequent moans and groans and hugs instead of slaps and punches .
Billy worked hard communicating with large corporations asking for donations . He asked not just for money but simple stuff like bicycles , ladders , old computers , just everyday items that could make the lives of people easier .
Billy found that most of the people he approached for help were very willing to provide what was needed .
in the world there are millions who live with hunger and disease in poverty stricken lands over the earth . The work is plenty but the labourers are few .
Somehow with the work James was doing he found a reason to live by helping others to live .
The headaches and pain he had been living with left him and somehow he felt better in himself . One of the other volunteers he worked with introduced him
to meditations with yoga and channelling into the positive energies that are all around us that bring healing and peace .
James knew that miraculously he was healing . His balance had improved as did his appetite .
When he returned back to his home in Canada for the appointments with his doctor they couldn’t believe the change in him .
The doctor asked James if the severity of the headaches were getting worse and how was he coping with all that .
When James responded,
“I don’t have any headaches “
The doctors had difficulty explaining why this could be .
Further x-rays showed the tumour was still there in his head however James just smiled .
James returned to specialists and nurses had no answer to why James looked strong and healthy .
On his return to Africa James brought back some flutes with the intention to teach the children his to play music . As the weeks passed he saw smiles on those little faces as they sat around the campfire in the village at night playing music and for the first time people were dancing .
People from other missions came to the village to support the new music ministry and some of that was recorded and send to radio stations around the world .
Donations soon arrived from many places from people who had heard the music recorded around the campfire .
Film crews arrive to do documentaries that showed how they village people were living .
The response to that was amazing as more people around the world sent relief packages with food , clothing ,water to the people of the village .
Other assistance arrived providing help with health and education .
Now many people in the village had found a reason to live .
Once they had nothing and no one who cared and now they could see there were many people who wanted to help with everyday things .
James watched how a small community of people found hope and healing which also helped him in the same way .
Like a miracle , doctors had no explanation or understanding of how James had recovered from cancer . He lived in the village until he passed away .
