Voting is Too Important to be Wasted
on Fake Bone Spurs

Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.
--John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 1960

America’s values, our history, our present, and our future are all at risk. We are being devoured by a gang of thugs and misfits, and far too little is being done about it. But as another person from history noted so accurately, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” (Edmund Burke). How can a group of turncoats attack our Capitol, capture the White House, our legislature, the Supreme Court, pack all the major cabinet offices with incompetent wannabees, and, with malice aforethought, dishonor themselves, their positions, and all of us?

And now, they’ve invited a billionaire to ravage our medical care system, take from our retirement system, while our president imposes tariffs on our citizens with the misguided notion that others (not us) will pay for them?

A few of his sycophants are snubbing their noses at us while daring us to do anything about the devastation left in his wake. Where are the proud, the few, the brave at this moment in history when we need them the most? Where are the patriots who honor “one Nation, under God, with Liberty and Justice for all?

Perhaps all is not lost. There are finally signs here and there showing that the entire band of misfits have awakened the Sleeping Giant. The polls are starting to shout again and again, that the p*ss ants have overstepped their bounds. The Giant is moving toward Town Hall meetings to call out members of Congress. In meeting after Meeting the right-wing ideologue members of Congress are being put on display to defend the indefensible. We have them on the run while they are peeing in their pathetic panties. Hooray for freedom of speech. Hooray for Town Hall meetings. Hooray for voters who have awakened.

Here is another idea to keep them on the run. Maybe we need a new Legislative Reward Fund. We need to put a billion dollars in that fund that all patriotic legislative candidates can tap—up to One Million dollars each. They all need to start voting their consciences and the Fund will reward their patriotism. Yes, the other side can match or exceed this Fund in dollars. But they are too cowardly to engage 100 groups in a (figurative) Knock Down, Drag Out contest of the real issues, the real consequences, as they carry this sign: “One Man or Woman with Courage Makes a Majority.”

Addendum: John F. Kennedy wrote a thesis back around 1938 entitled, “Why England Slept,” in which he was critical of England’s response to the Nazi threat. His thesis helped to win him magna cum laude honors at Harvard. His book on that subject later became a best seller. He also commanded the PT-109 in the Pacific where he won more honors when he swam island-to-island in search of a way to get help for his crew. In the dark of night, a Japanese submarine had surfaced and cut the PT-109 in half. JFK with ropes, stamina, and swimming skills, got his entire crew to a small island. He found a way out by inscribing a coconut shell with his position on it and giving it to a young boy on one of the islands. Help came, his crew was rescued, and the rest is history. JFK was decorated with the Navy Medal and the Purple Heart and was elevated to the informal rank of an American Hero. He could easily have avoided military service by inventing an excuse such as “bone spurs” in his feet, but he was a true patriot, despite his father’s wealth. Ironically, he paid the ultimate price in Dallas 20 years later for his unchecked trust in the entire American public.

I voted for JFK in my first trip to the voting booth. He kept that coconut shell in the Oval Office as a reminder that it probably got him elected. (That, and my vote). I once read that a member of the Armed Forces once wrote a letter to Pres. Kennedy, and asked him to stop an impending assignment to Alaska. JFK replied perfectly with three words: “Life is unfair.” It is that. But if we try hard enough, and don’t give up, good things can happen. I believe in Edmund Burke, in JFK, and all of America’s heroes; in liberty, in justice, in persistence, and in the good that we can do. The scales of justice, however, can only remain unbalanced until a cosmic shift comes along. It’s overdue.

I had never heard that story about JFKennedy! Thanks for reminding us that we need to take daring actions if we want our nation to be the better example of all of us. That means going to Town Hall meetings and letting Republicans know that this is a democracy, not a plutocracy.

Bone spurs are for old men (would make a great book title). While they cause one's feet to be very sore, like my father, who drummed out for ruptured eardrums and myopia when he signed up in 1941, Spurs should be on the title of this essay, not Sores.

I would hate to have to bribe people like the miscreants to get them to fly right like you suggest. But you also suggest that the tide is turning in favor of a more stable and enduring government rather than one driven by lust for power, control and money.

Speaking of lust, I also was given the vote just in time to vote for JFK. A true patriot president with one fatal flaw that wasn't broadcast like it would be today. Kennedy had a tremendous lust for life experienced by his many physical challenges, including the PT 109 adventure.

As a result, he complained of having a bad back. His bad back was eased by brief Secret Service protected trysts with many women, famous and simply picked up off the street. His daily medicine, he claimed.

Let's hope the electorate has awaken to its mistake and begin going after the congrespersons at fault a year from now and senators as they come up for election. And don't forget dog catchers and the like. We need to clean up their act, as well. Let's let honesty and integrity rule over deceit and money.
