Santa is on his usual trip, delivering gifts during Christmas. But the trip turns into something far other then usual.
Santa wakes up to the scents of hot cocoa and rice porridge. The best breakfast in the world. Santa hopes that Mrs Santa has some of her delicious soft ginger bread on the table too.
It's the night between the 24th and 25th of December, the second of the best two nights of the year. These nights are the culmination of all other 363 days of the year. All the work that led up to these fantastic nights.
Santa combed his beard and watched out through the window. Perfect winter up here on the North Pole.
For a short time looking out he feels sad. So many people have stopped believing in him. “How could he bring all the Christmas gifts in one night? It’s impossible.” It is not impossible. Santa is the only creature still alive who can bend time and space. So bringing all the gifts is an easy task and not stressful at all.
Then Santa thinks of all the small and big children around the world that do believe in him. The happiness he brings to all corners of the world. All those happy faces make all the bad in the world worth it in the end.
Santa puts his clothes on and goes down stairs to the kitchen where Mrs Santa is putting the last food on the table. This is actually the only day of the year that they don't make the food together and put it on the table. This night, every year, he must have all the rest he can get for this one night of work. To make it up, he always has the new year's dinner and all work around that.
Mrs Santa looks up with a big, warm smile as Santa walks down the stairs.
“Did you have a good sleep honey?” Mrs Santa said
“Yes, I slept like a little child.” Santa chuckled. “It smells delicious. I can never get enough of your food.”
“Thank you! Lets eat, I am hungry too. Do you want a pint of beer for your food? The new brew is just ready.” Mrs Santa didn’t wait for Santa's answer. She filled two pints of the dark beer so the white foam was dripping on the floor as she carried them to the table. “Oh darn. I have to mop the floor after our breakfast.” She said quietly.
“Didn't worry about that. You go and rest when I go on my gift trip and I mop it up when I get back.”
“Oh, Thank you honey!”
They ate their food and drank their beer and talked about all that had happened this last year. They could sit and talk for hours and hours, and probably would if it was not time for Santa to get going with his sled. All the gifts were in the sack in the back. The reindeer's was eager to get going. Everything was exactly as it should be.
As Santa took off in a spiral up in the sky, Mrs Santa waved with her hand until Santa was only a small dot in the horizon.
As Santa flew in his reindeer pulled sled he could see and hear the joy of Christmas from children and adults alike. Food and Kandy being prepared, last decorations placed, Christmas music in the radios. Joy and happiness.
But there was no joy everywhere. As he flew by one house he saw a woman get hit by her drunk husband. In another house the children were crying in bed and hoped their parents would be sober, or at least not as drunk on christmas day. Santa wished that he could visit every home and correct all wrongs, but he cannot. Or he can be. Spiritual creatures like him are only allowed to play their role, nothing else. They are powerful and when they step away from their path bad things can happen. Bad things have happened. Must never happen again.
Many more happy families and some more not so happy later he arrived at his first destination. Two children, a six year old and a three year old boy sleep in their beds. Santa can hear their anticipating dreams and he gets all warm inside. A few doors down are their parents in bed. They are not sleeping. No, they are passionately and lovingly practicing making new babies.
Santa walks quietly to the christmas tree and places all the gifts under the tree. He pets their German Shepard and then climbs up the chimney again.
And so it goes on for hours and hours for him but only seconds and minutes for humans as he warped time during his trip.
Santa has almost forgotten about all the bad things he saw and heard earlier. Abbuse, robbery, rape, and even murder.
He would have forgotten all this if it was not for the next home. As Santa climbed down the chimney he felt something was wrong. He peaked into the living room. The drunk father was touching his 12 year old daughter in a very inappropriate way. She cries and try to run away but he grabbed her again and slaps her hard in the face. “Didn't you ever try to run away from my you little bitch. You are my daughter and I do what I want with you. If you ever try to run away from home I bring my shotgun and kill you when I find you.”
The little girl is crying and the tears are running down her face. Santa feels how his blood is starting to boil in his veines. He feels his hard beating hard in his chest. Then he heard the girl's mom. He calms down and thinks that she will protect her daughter. Instead she laughed at her. “You scream like he is fucking you with his big fick.” They both laugh so their faces get red. Santa's face is also red now, but of anger. He heard the man again. “Run to your room now. Your mom are about to get fucked on the kitchen table.” He said. “Is that so?” She replies in a flirty tone. The man loosened his grip on his daughter and she ran to her room. The father grabbed the mothers hair and dragged her to the kitchen table, bent her over and pulled up her skirt. He enters her hard from behind. “Take it easy you jerk. It hurts!” She tells. “Shut the fuck up bitch, you love it hard.”
Santa cannot take this anymore. He silently walks into the kitchen and takes one of the big kitchen knives and moves up behind the man. Santa is looking in disgust for a few seconds at the man before he grabs the man's forehead with his left hand and pulls him back hard. With his right he thrust the knife right through the man's neck and then pushed it hard forward, cutting the neck all the way down to the spine. The woman's back gets covered by his blood and she screams in fear when she sees his dead body fall down beside the table. Santa moves up and grabs her hair and pushes her head so hard down into the table so she breaks her nose. Santa gave her one hard blow in the back with his knife. The knife broke two ribs in her back, cut her heart in two, broke one more rib in her chest and then stopped almost an inch down in the oak table.
Santa turns around and grabs another kitchen knife and returns to his sled. His anger has not diminished, on the contrary, he is more angry than he has ever been.
The robbery he saw earlier. He will visit them. They live on robbery, black mail and drug dealing. But that is about to end. It will end tonight.
Santa rushed with his sled to the other side of town. The three men are in one of the men's apartment, on the sixth floor in an old brick house. There is no chimney so Santa has to use the front door. He knocks at the door and waits until he sees someone look through the peephole. When Santa sees movement in the peephole he kicks the door in with his full power. The door breaks loose from its frame and hits the man in his face so hard that his nose breaks and he sees stars from the pain. But somehow he managed to stay on his feet.
Santa walks in and grabs the man's throat with his left hand and lifts him up in the air. The man kicks Santa's belly and tries to loosen his grip around his throat with both his hands. But to no use. Santa is just too strong.
Santa thrust the knife into the man's lower belly and cut him open, all the way up to his chest. The man's arms weaken like boiled spaghetti as his intestines fall down on the floor between Santa's feet. “Ho, ho, ho you asshole.” Santa drops the dying man to the floor and starts walking further into the apartment. He sees a movement on his right side. Just around the corner is one of the other men. He is holding a sawed off shotgun, aiming at Santa's head. The man looks surprised as he sees Santa with a big knife looking at him. The hesitation is enough for Santa to grab the man's gun and rip it from his hands.
Santa turns the gun around and fires both barrels at the same time, hitting the man in his chest. He is dead before he hits the floor. Santa throws the shotgun at the dead body and turns towards the living room where the third man comes running out from. The man stopped a few meters away from Santa. He looks at Santa with a mix of fear and surprise. Santa looked back in the man's eyes. “You got two choices, boy. Either I gut you like the pig you are or you turn around, run as fast as you can and jump through the window and hope you survive.”
The man looked at Santa, then at his gutted friend and at his shot to death friend. Then back to Santa. “Fuck this! Fuck you!” The man cries before he turns around and jumps through the window. He didn't survive. But he lived long enough to see Santa look down on him from the broken window.
Santa continues his rampage, killing everyone that he feels deserve it.
After his 24th killing, he climbed up through the chimney on the house and was about to enter his sled when something caught his eyes. In the neighboring house, a young girl is looking at him. As he looks at her she gives him a big, warm smile. All the anger in Santa's body and mind disappears and he feels calm inside again. He looks down at the knife in his hand. “No, no, no. What have I done.” Santa whispers to himself. He drops the knife and waves to the girl.
The girl's name is Elina and she is five years old. Her biggest wish for christmas is a Lego Friends horse stable. Santa has her gift in his bag, together with her other gift. A pink night gown, with a big brown horse on the front. Santa waves back and smiles. The girl goes back to her bed and falls asleep.
After Santa has left the gifts under the girl's family Christmas tree, he remembers the girl where the killing began. Her name is Josy and her biggest wish is to live in a family where she feels safe and loved. Santa knows exactly where she will get that. A couple, not far from her, wishes for a child. But the woman cannot get pregnant after a car accident several years ago. They feel too old to adopt a baby but have talked about adopting an older child. Both the man and woman are very loving and it will be a perfect home for Josy. She will also get a big, cosy panda teddy as she has wished for several years now.
Santa arranges the move for the girl, removing her memories of the horrible things she had to go through and a new loving, happy family has been added to the town.
Santa completes his gift tour and returns to his home. As usual, Mrs Santa is waiting for him as he arrives. “Welcome back honey. How did it go this year?”
“I had a small incident, but worked it out.” Santa hopes she cannot see through his lie.
“Oh, I would not say a small incident. Twenty four dead! That is why we cannot, ever, do anything outside our intended role. But it could have been worse. It HAS been much worse as you remember.” She looks sharply into his eyes.
“Yes my love, I remember.” Santa looks down in shame as they walk towards the house.
“We will talk more about this later. Now come in and we eat supper honey.”
"Yes, my love!"
Wishful thinking. It's amazing how many young people cry out every year for help and are ignored by the police.
In stories like this and movies, we cheer on the vigilante who takes the law into his/hands and solves the problem. But we are of people of law. It's better to prove wrongdoing correctly rather than instantly blame someone dropping in on the scene and then, act.
