Twin sisters adopted from China share their story and talk about themselves and their interests.
They were formerly known as Pu Li and May Lee Sandusky, but their names have been Americanized to Megan May Lee and Michelle Breanna Sandusky.
Our names are Megan May Lee and Michelle Breanna Sandusky, and we just turned 9 back in May of this year.
We are sisters, twins, and we look just alike. We talk alike, look alike, think alike, dress alike....People often have trouble telling us apart, but it REALLY isn't that difficult. See, Megan has a mole on her face, and I do not; but other than that, we look EXACTLY alike! (I am Michelle, by the way.) It is as though one is looking in a mirror, that is how alike we look!
We were adopted just last year from China; we lived in an orphanage before that. We were given up for adoption because we were girls, and a lot of the time, girls born in China are often left behind because girls are NOT very important in China. In China, males are important, and women and girls are often treated very badly. It is wrong, but this is how it is, and this was why we were abandoned and then left at an orphanage.
But now that is all behind us. We are now in America, and we were adopted by a family in Tennessee whose last name is Sandusky, and they are our family now.
America is so different than China, but we are (slowly) getting used to it, and our English is getting better every day. Sometimes Megan and I talk to each other in Chinese, but other than that, we speak English. It is still not great, but we ARE learning new words every day!
Megan and I both have long black hair that is silky soft in nature, and we often wear it loose or in pigtails. Sometimes we do our hair alike, but more often than not, one of us will have it down while the other will have hers up in a ponytail or in pigtails. We have brown, uptilted eyes, flat noses, bow lips, and round faces that are yellowy-tan in color. We like to wear our clothes from China (to us, they are more comfortable than the American style stuff), and we like Chinese food and still mostly eat with chopsticks. We like American food, too, but we like Chinese food best because this is what we are used to.
Even though we look alike, we couldn't be more different, especially when it comes to our hobbies. For example, Megan likes horses and to read while I like to draw and like cats and dogs. I also like to paint while Megan likes to write poetry or stories. She is really good at her writing; I can't write a thing to save my life!
Let me say one thing before you start asking questions..actually, we were NOT officially adopted. We are still waiting for the adoption to be finalized, according to mama's lawyer. We are able to stay with our family, but we are NOT yet adopted. We have to go to a place called court for a judge to make the final decision, and if he says yes, then we have finally become adopted. Until then, we are more like foster kids than adopted kids. Thought I had better let you know that.
ANYWAY...Megan and I have always been very close, even at the orphanage. We had friends there, but we were each other's best friends, and we still are very close today. We hardly ever fight, and if we get mad at each other, we just walk away until we stop being mad at each other; and then we make up.
I hope someday, when we are older, we can return to China. We miss life there, and we miss our friends at our orphanage. I hope our family can join us because we can show them our home before we came to America, and they can meet our friends. We both think that would be wonderful!
