A mother's intuition is usually right in most instances when she feels that someone in her family is in danger or is in need of help.
Call it a "sixth sense" if you must, but I always seem to know when something is going on within my family, even when I am not even home.
My ability to know when something is amiss in my family is legendary, and it is well known. No matter how minor the problem, I always seem to know beforehand when the kids are going to get into a fight, or into some sort of mischief. I get a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach, and my nerves go on standby; this is how I usually tell that something is amiss in my family. And besides, with the children I am raising, one may never know when something will happen, seeing that several of them are quite medically fragile or seriously disabled in one way or another.
For example, a child like Johnny will be fine, playing with his computer with his brothers, and the next, he will end up on the floor in a seizure (plus his dog, "Ginger", alerts us whenever he is going to have a seizure; she is very sensitive about these sort of things). Or Ronee', another child with health concerns, will be eating, and a few moments later, she will be gasping for air because she accidentally ingested peanuts again and is now suffering a life-threatening allergic reaction to the peanuts. Or Jodie, who is unable to swallow or feed on her own, will come down with pneumonia and is having a lot of trouble breathing. (Jodie, like Johnny and Ronee', also has medical concerns, plus she is mentally disabled and is dependent on us for her every need.)
This is why, whenever I go anywhere, I carry my cellphone, so I can keep in close contact with Bill if he isn't at work, or I can call one of our neighbors to check in on the children if Bill or any of the older kids are not home (in which they usually are when they are not in school). I have felt more safe and secure since getting my cellphone, and it has been an invaluable lifesaver during times of emergencies that have unexpectedly hit our home.
I don't like being away from my children or my husband for as long as necessary, and when I am not home, I don't feel secure until I am pulling my van into the driveway and see that everything is okay..that is, no firetrucks/police vehicles/ambulances parked in our driveway, or no flames shooting from our house, or no kids running amuck, panicking about whatever may have happened. If I see that the kids are in the yard, playing as all kids do or that the house is still in one piece, only then can I truly relax!
I also get these premonitions in the pit of my stomach because I am a nurse, and even though I can help my children before they even get to the hospital for medical aid, I still worry about them. After all, I AM their mother, and if there is one thing that mothers everywhere are good at, it is worrying about their children and their safety!

You are so right about this Karen. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story with us. It was specially precious for me as I learnt more things about you. You have a husband, how many children?? - and you are a nurse.
Interesting story well written Karen. I had a few premonitions myself. One time I left my cell phone in the car, I heard it ringing while I was in this store. There wasn't anyone else with a cell phone around. Anyway, my wife called me at the same time I heard the phone ring. hugs G
Mother intuition is a blessing and a curse. My intuition is always knowing the phone is going to ring and who is on it, before it happens - usually with bad news.
I believe in premonition...many times in my live that I can recall I said something and felt something is going to happen...even with my own childs death....!!
Scary but true...I can't tell to who or what is going to happen...but know if it is close to home or far away...like friends..or just some on I know well!! Sometimes I reveal it without knowing that I actually did it...like the other day on my balloon ride story..I said there was going to be a storm...and whala!!
