Success Story
Since publishing my first book, A life Not My Own, some of my family and friends have been using the word “favor’ with regards to the whirlwind of activity surrounding my book. Everywhere I go, people seem genuinely willing to help me get the word out about this book; without even reading a single word of the book! Some folks say it’s the name of the book that captures their heart. Maybe Shakespeare wasn’t completely right about what’s in a name...
So, I thought I ‘d share with you just a few of the stories related to getting the book out there that sort of define what it means in an average person’s life, like mine, to receive God’s favor.
• I was napping on the sofa one day not long after my book went live, when God yelled at me, “get your butt off that sofa, create some flyers and go hand them out in the neighborhood”. This resulted in several local shops allowing me to post my flyers and two potential book signing engagements.
• I decided to give my doctor a copy of my book and share with him how the procedure he did for me last year gave me my life back. I thought that maybe he might mention my book to a few friends. He wasn’t there when I visited his office. Instead, I met one of his colleagues who is in a book club. Now, my book is being read by her book club that consists of a diverse set of women with a network that reaches pretty far.
• My day job requires that I travel often. I'm in the Philly airport, sitting at the gate, typing away on my laptop. When I looked up, the gate attendant smiled at me. After several exchanges of smiles, I decided to share with her the news of my newly published book. We made a connection and I gave her an autographed photo to give to her mom as a late birthday present. She contacted me to purchase a book and plans to take to her mom about me doing a lecture at their church.
• And lastly, while having dinner in Boston with a few ladies from work, the subject of my book came up; cuz one of ladies wanted me to sign her book . The waitress was so moved by my story that she had tears in her eyes as I encouraged her to follow dreams of authorship.
If this ain’t favor, I don’t know what is!
