I have been writing for years, but never thought I would ever publish a book. I actually received the inspiration to write a book for teens after I "retired" from my main job. Once I set my mind on the importance of my book, nothing stood in my way. I drew up a proposal, looked for an agent, and when we couldn't get a traditional publisher to take on my work, I self-published. Even as the book is launched, the demand for it appears to be great. You need to be persistent and tenacious in your writing and moving to the next step.
