Fact:
Fear and terrorism are the deciding factors, swaying our future destinies, in our great modern world of advanced communications and technology. A perfect example of this phenomenon, in a time of less sophistication, occurred on December 7, 1941. The attack on Pearl Harbor and the bombing of the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 are the two most redefining terrorist events of the 20th century.
In 1931 Hector C. Bywater had the final publication of his book, “The Great Pacific War”, released. Bywater was a British naval correspondent for the New York Times and the Baltimore Sun. Bywater’s passions included history, naval strategy and drinking; an occupational hazard of most writers.
His book and a series of articles published in the 20’s and 30’s were an incite into a new and unconventional style of warfare; a handbook for terrorism for the 20th century. The naval strategies outlined in his writings were a winning blueprint to the Pacific Theater in World War II. The writings outraged politicians and the public in a time when our Army had a mounted cavalry and our Naval ships were coal fired.
Ironically Hector C. Bywater and Isoroku Yamamoto, the admiral of the Imperial Japanese Navy, met socially once discussing issues of war and peace over a bottle of Scotch.
This was at a time when Yamamoto was an upcoming young captain. Even more fantastic, Bywater’s mysterious death shortly before World War II may have been the result of Admiral Yamamoto wanting to distance himself from the influence that Bywater’s knowledge in unconventional naval warfare had on his thinking.
This is not a prophetic book, nor is it to be construed as a hand book for terrorists or a blueprint for anarchists of the 20st century. Its’ purpose is to create an awareness of the possibilities that certain modern scenarios could cause.
