Patrick Ocampo's Surface Tension stunned me. I couldn't put it down. I read it cover to cover in one sitting. From the red earth to the green and yellow peppers, I can smell this book, as well as see it and hear it. Ocampo has given us the gift of an outsider-become-Okie, whose tilted angle on things is as refreshing as it is unpredictable.
