Rachael Cicconi, a flutist with the local symphony, is raising her five-year-old son, Timmy, alone after her verbally abusive boyfriend, Timmy's father, left them without a word and without support. Rachael has made some mistakes, but now her only desire is to take care of Timmy the best that she can. Lately, however, Timmy has been waking from nightmares about a killer knight. Rachael believes it may be a combination of his favorite story, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and early memories of his father's abusive nature that trigger these dreams. Though she would like to meet someone and give Timmy the father he deserves, she's not sure she can ever trust again.

Michel of Banesford finds himself in a world he knows nothing about. This present day is nothing like 1192. But he did what he had vowed to do, he followed a killer into the future. Sir Ruford, better known as Moonslayer, must be stopped whatever the cost, and it had cost Michel all that he knew. The only light in Michel's life now is Rachael, the woman he had protected from a pair of attackers. After hearing of Timmy's nightmares, Michel is convinced that Rachael's son holds the key to finding and stopping Ruford. Timmy, Michel discovers, is a seer. Michel just needs to find what it is that triggers the boy's dreams--or rather, prophecies. His presence, however, has placed Rachael and Timmy in danger. Now he must protect his new-found family as the hunter becomes the hunted.

Rated R for a couple of explicit sex scenes.

Excerpt

Rachael sighed. There was only one thing for Michel to do if he wanted to avoid falling ill and she hated suggesting it. "You need to get out of those wet clothes," she said.
"Milady!" Michel quipped. "I did think you more reserved than that."
Rachael bit lightly on her bottom lip. Her cheeks heated. "I meant, before you catch a chill. There's an old bathrobe upstairs that should fit you. You can wear it until your clothes are dry. And please, call me Rachael."
Michel bowed, his unwavering gaze locking with hers. "Enchantee Rachele."
"Not Rashelle," Rachael corrected at the soft sh sound. "Rachael. Ch, like in church."
Michel frowned. Again he tried. "Rachele" he repeated without success.
Rachael smiled. "Would you like a cup of tea before showering?" You can take it with you."
"Tea?"
"Yes, tea. Would you like some to drink?"
"Tis a warm drink?"
"Yes, of course."
"Then, aye, I would."
"Okay. I'll be right back." Rachael headed for the kitchen. Passing through the open doorframe, she flipped the light on, illuminating the room.
"Dieu!"
A loud crash sounded. Startled, Rachael spun around to see Michel pressed against the wall, several broken cups scattered at his feet. "Michel?" she queried. She took a hesitant step toward him then froze at his wild and wary gaze.
"Hold sorciere!" Michel called out, fumbling with the cork of his flask. As he released the cork, a visible courage rose in him. Stepping boldly forward, he prompted Rachael to stumble back.
"What's wrong?" Rachael stepped back farther still, placing the kitchen table between them.
"Play not the innocent with me, sorciere. I am well armed against the likes of you."
"What are you talking about?" Pressed against the counter, Rachael reached blindly behind her and drew open the silverware drawer. By touch, she searched its contents until her fingers wrapped about a smooth wooden handle. Drawing a bread knife from the drawer, she held it before her. "Stay back," she warned. "Stay back or I swear I'll . . ." Words failed her and she edged along the counter, then the wall, skimming the table to slowly make her way around him to the living room.
Michel approached Rachael in slow cautious steps, his flask held out before him like a talisman. His every facial line spoke determination. His brows were tightly drawn, his lips taut. An ominous air surrounded him. This was not the gentle man she had opened her door to. This was a man with a mission. Again she stepped back. "Don't come any closer," she warned as she inched away. Suddenly the table flew aside and her doorway to escape filled with Michel's formidable frame. Trapped, she watched his expression change from wary to victor, watched him finger the flask as if in deep questioning thought. Her stomach lurched.
Then his eyes flared fire and ice, and before she could react, he slid his hands about the bloated body of his flask and squeezed.
Dropping the knife, Rachael lifted her arms to protect her face. Fear turned to rage when she ran her tongue over drenched lips. "Water? You shot me with water?" She grabbed a dishtowel from the counter and wiped her face dry. "What's wrong with you?"
"Why do you not writhe in pain?" he asked after a long pondering silence.
"What!" Rachael threw the towel on the sink. "You squirted me with water," she spat incredulously.
"Aye. Holy water. A true witch--"
"Witch?" Her eyes grew wide. Her mouth gaped. "You think I'm a witch?"

Rachael Cicconi's boyfriend left her three years ago. She has since been the single parent of their son, Timmy. Rachael refuses to trust or love again, that is, until a knight in shining armor rescues her from an attack late one night on her way home from work. When he turns up on her doorstep with nowhere to stay, Rachael finds it hard to say no, even though she fears for both her and Timmy's safety.

Michel of Banesford is a knight of old living in England in 1376. When, on the 3 nights of the full moon, someone starts to murder the young maidens. Michel manages to follow this monster, Ruford, through time to America, where he meets Rachael and her young son. For the last two weeks, Timmy has been having nightmares about an evil knight hunting women. This is how long Ruford has been in America, and Michel wonders what could be influencing the boy's dreams.

Michel's prevention of the attack on Rachael changes the course of both their lives. Michel has given up everything he knows and loves to travel to an unknown time and place in order to fulfill his oath to god; he must stop Ruford from killing again. Rachael still has difficulties being able to trust, worrying what she will do if he leaves her. How will Timmy cope if another man walks away from them? Even with all this, she finds herself drawn further into a relationship with Michel, unable to stop her heart from ruling her head.

Ms. Ciletti has written a wonderful book with realistic and colorful characters. I especially liked the way Michel reacted to today's technology and what he thinks is happening. When Rachael turned on a light, he throws holy water on her, thinking she is a witch. Rachael has a number of internal battles throughout the book, worrying what would be best for both her and her son. Timmy is a clever and determined five-year-old boy who, like most of his age, can usually get what he wants with both his mother and Michel. These and many other little points make this book work on all levels.

Linda Ciletti is an author to keep an eye on for any of her releases because they are not to be missed. I adored this story, and it kept me glued to the pages as the adventure and danger increased to a breaking point where one will survive, and one must die. Ms. Ciletti is a talented author, with a skill to bring her characters to life, and to create people that the reader will truly care about.

Please read this story for a fabulous evening's entertainment. Turn off the television (as I did) and lose yourself in the adventures of a lifetime as the past meets the present, and good overcomes evil. I loved the ending, and I would love to read further stories about this couple. (hint hint) Thank you, Ms. Ciletti, for the joy your story brings to the readers.
