Dear Advice Guy: I had a hysterectomy three weeks ago but no cancer was found. However, the doctors did find cancer in my uterus so that was removed as well. My doctor told me no follow up was necessary. Should I get a second opinion?
First, let me know who this doctor is. I don’t know of any doctor that would tell a patient who has just undergone some major surgery to not come in for a checkup. This doctor doesn’t practice out of a van under the bridge does he? You just had your vagina or whatever it is removed. Of course you should get a checkup. Why do you even have to ask? I’ll tell you what I’ll do, you come over to my place and I’ll be happy to take a look at you and give you a routine follow up. Since I am such a nice guy I’ll even throw in a free breast exam.
