I have written this ebook to try to help you to quickly and easily learn to read Tarot cards, whichever deck you might choose to work with.
I would like to dispel some of the myths and challenges that many people come across when they pick up a deck of tarot cards and try to get some meaningful answers from them to pressing life questions.
I have tried to tap into the different learning modalities that we all have and to present the material in as many different formats as possible to help you to learn to read tarot cards in the way that best suits you.
This book does not have any meanings or definitions of cards in specific decks of cards because the principles presented here work for any deck of cards. This is a practical, useable framework for day-to-day readings.
I have seen many Tarot readers and teachers who seem to be on a power or ego trip, where they like to give the impression that they are the only ones that can access the information and what they say is right and cannot be changed, questioned or contradicted.
Many of these readers claim the secrets lie in the cards and they have to create as much confusion as possible in someone’s mind, so that person will naturally have to come back to them and them alone for answers.
That is total nonsense. There are no secrets in the cards. They are a visual way for you to access your own Higher Wisdom, Intuition and your own guidance and answers.
When I started reading tarot cards in 1993 I soon discovered that most people who came for a reading were not interested in the structure or symbolism of the cards and were not really looking for a deep, metaphysical, spiritual experience. Most people had a life challenge that they wanted some guidance with or they wanted to better understand themselves or another person.
In a lot of ways, most people wanted more of a coaching experience, although that terminology was not used. People wanted to move themselves forward in their lives.
As I started teaching people to read tarot cards, my students seemed to want the practical skills to help themselves and their own clients.
Tarot can be a fantastic way for engaging in a deep, spiritual, metaphysical journey of exploration and there are plenty of books available that offer that approach.
This book does not do that. You will not find any discussions on the subjects of consciousness, spiritual development, the Kabbalah, the Tree of Life or complex meditation techniques.
Whilst many decks of cards contain symbolism that has become associated with different religions or belief systems, Tarot is not attached to any religion or belief system. Many of the symbols you see in Tarot cards are actually very ancient and some of them pre-date any form of organised religion.
We are not making a study of Tarot cards for their own sake. As you build a relationship with your own tarot cards, you may want to study them in more detail as many decks of tarot cards are stunningly beautiful works of art in their own right but you don’t need to go into that level of depth to get practical answers from your tarot cards.
It is not difficult to learn to read tarot cards and anyone can do it. You do not need any special skills, experience or gifts. You simply need a willingness to learn, an open mind and a bit of time to work with your cards. The more you work with your cards, the more you build a personal relationship with them and the better the answers will be to the questions that you ask.
This book is designed as a practical guide in order to get practical answers. Be your own life coach. Use the cards to make your own decisions. Empower yourself rather than relying on someone else’s predictions.
