Denise Rich was always a perfect student.  School was the only thing she always got right.  And then John Archer came along and ruined even that for her.  He took away her ability to hold everything in perfect order.  He stole her ability not to care about the fact that nothing outside of school worked for her.  Up until him, she was perfectly happy to live vicariously through her two best friends, Suse and Astoria.  But Denise thought what John gave her in trade was worth more; a chance at real love.  And it was until he took it away.  Denise is now at the end of her ability to love and believe.  Her journey to get that ability back is a rocky one that involves a trip to Vegas and almost ends in disaster.
