“I thought you weren’t coming back.”
Hades jerked awake. His body reacted before he could fully assess the threat or stop himself. Grabbing the hand reaching out to him, he yanked her off balance. She pitched forward into his lap and he caught her against his chest.
She didn’t move from her place in his lap for several long seconds, but when she did, she looked at him, her indigo eyes wide, but without the terror he was use to or any sign of apprehension at the violence of his action or awkwardness from her position in his lap. She wasn’t afraid, she was actually smiling, mirth dancing in her eyes.
